Drama In Siaya As MP Rosa Akinyi Buyu Attacks Sen. Sifuna And Babu Owino Amid Oburu Odinga Roars

There was drama in Siaya County after Gem MP Rosa Akinyi Buyu launched a fierce verbal attack on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino during a charged ODM gathering.

The confrontation came just as Senator Oburu Odinga, elder brother to the late Raila Odinga, made bold statements revealing that Raila had wanted ODM to work closely with President William Ruto before his death.

Buyu’s outburst, which took place before a crowd of ODM supporters, was seen as a direct response to growing divisions within the party over its future direction.

She accused Sifuna and Babu Owino of hypocrisy and disrespect, claiming they were undermining the unity that Raila Odinga had fought to maintain.

Witnesses say she spoke passionately, insisting that the two young leaders had turned ODM into a platform for personal gain instead of promoting the ideals of the party’s founders.

Her remarks came at a time when Oburu Odinga was addressing party members, revealing that his late brother Raila had privately expressed the need for ODM to form a working relationship with President Ruto’s administration for the sake of national unity and stability.

Oburu described this as Raila’s “final political wish,” emphasizing that ODM must adapt to new realities and stop living in denial about Kenya’s evolving political landscape.

During the meeting, ODM members endorsed Oburu Odinga as the new party leader, citing his experience, seniority, and his close understanding of Raila’s vision.

Siaya leaders, including Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, said the endorsement reflected the will of the party’s grassroots members who wanted continuity and unity after Raila’s passing.

Oburu was hailed as the right person to guide ODM through its transition and maintain the Luo region’s strong influence in national politics.

In his speech, Oburu Odinga declared that the time for endless opposition politics was over. He stated that ODM would continue the cooperation agreement that Raila initiated with President Ruto, describing it as the best approach to ensure development reaches all parts of the country.

He further said that ODM must remain relevant and work with the government of the day to protect the interests of its supporters.

The endorsement sparked mixed reactions within ODM. While many older members welcomed Oburu’s leadership and his call for unity, some youthful leaders expressed discomfort with the party’s growing closeness to President Ruto.

Sifuna and Babu Owino, who have been vocal about reforming ODM’s internal structures, reportedly viewed the endorsement as a move to silence critics and maintain the old guard’s dominance.

Political analysts say the events in Siaya reflect a power struggle within ODM as it faces life after Raila Odinga. The endorsement of Oburu signals a shift toward pragmatic politics, with the party positioning itself to cooperate with the ruling coalition.

However, the public confrontation between Rosa Buyu and the younger ODM leaders highlights deep divisions that could test the unity of the movement ahead of the 2027 general election.

As the dust settles, all eyes are on how Oburu Odinga will manage the transition, balance internal rivalries, and uphold the legacy of his late brother while steering ODM into a new political era.
