Gachagua Opens Up on His Only Regret After His Impeachment as Deputy President

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shared a heartfelt reflection on how his removal from office affected his family, especially his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

Speaking on Saturday afternoon during a ceremony in Nyeri County, Gachagua revealed that although he found peace after being impeached, he still carries one major regret — that his wife can no longer support the boy child the way she once did.

He explained that while he served in government, Pastor Dorcas played a major role in leading a national boychild empowerment initiative.

Her work focused on rescuing young men struggling with depression, drug addiction, and other social challenges, giving them hope, skills, and a chance to rebuild their lives.

Gachagua said that this important work has slowed down significantly since he left office, making it harder for her to reach vulnerable boys across the country.

Addressing the congregation during Pastor Dorcas’ ordination as a reverend, Gachagua noted that their removal from the country’s top leadership may have come with humiliation, but it also brought them personal peace. However, the limited reach of the boychild program remains a painful reminder of what they left behind.

“Our humiliating exit from office has actually brought us peace, and as a family we have moved on and are happier,” he said. “But my only regret is that after leaving office, Dorcas is no longer able to help as many boys as she wished. That, for us, is very disappointing.”

Gachagua added that despite the challenges, the family continues to support her ministry in every way possible. He said they remain committed to encouraging Dorcas as she continues her mission, even though the opportunities she previously had are not as accessible as before.

The former Deputy President also criticized the government for failing to sustain the fight against illicit alcohol, especially in the Central Kenya region. He expressed sadness that the progress they had made in cleaning up the streets and helping the boychild has been reversed.

“We feel very disappointed that the work we did to eliminate illicit brews and rescue our boys from the trenches has been undone. The illegal alcohol is back, and the boys have returned to the same struggles. It makes us very sad,” he said.

During his emotional speech, the Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP) leader took time to honour his wife for her dedication to service. He described Dorcas as a passionate servant of God whose commitment has transformed their home and inspired the wider community.

Gachagua praised her as the anchor of their family — a woman of strong values, deep faith, and unwavering love. He also thanked their children for standing by their mother and supporting her ministry.

“She strongly believes in family values, and she has always put her family first,” Gachagua stated. “I want to appreciate my children for agreeing that we will always stand with Dorcas and support her calling.”

Through his remarks, Gachagua painted a picture of a family united in faith and purpose, even as they navigate the new chapter of life that began after he left government.
