Sonko Rushes to Daughter’s Aid, Heatedly Confronts Son-in-Law

Sonko Rushes to Daughter’s Aid After Alleged Assault, Confronts Son-in-Law

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko rushed to his daughter’s home on Saturday after receiving a distress call that left him deeply shaken. In a video shared on his social media pages, Sonko revealed that his daughter had phoned her mother in fear, claiming that her husband had slapped her across the face.

According to Sonko, the incident reportedly began from a simple question his daughter asked her husband about what they would have for breakfast. Instead of responding calmly, he allegedly turned violent and attacked her, leaving her distressed and frightened.

Sonko issued a heartfelt statement describing the panic and pain that came with hearing his daughter cry for help.
He said that no parent is ever emotionally prepared to hear their child speak in fear, and he reacted immediately because, for any mother or father, protecting their child is instinctive.

He went on to say that if his own daughter — someone surrounded by privilege, support, and security — could face harassment in her own home, then countless other young women and men in Kenya were likely suffering in silence, with no one to speak for them.

After receiving the call, Sonko and his team drove to his daughter’s residence. In the heated confrontation that followed, the son-in-law stayed silent when Sonko demanded to know why he had assaulted his daughter.

Sonko disclosed that he had been financially supporting the couple in many ways — paying their rent, school fees for their children, household expenses, and even purchasing a Range Rover for them.

Despite all this, he explained, his daughter still ended up being mistreated, which made him reflect on the broader issue of domestic violence in society.

Sonko urged other women in abusive relationships to speak out and seek assistance. He highlighted that various city hospitals — including those serving low-income communities — offer vital support services for victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.

During the confrontation, Sonko restrained his team from attacking the son-in-law, reminding them that violence would only make the situation worse.

In the end, he escorted his daughter away from the home, warning the young man never to lay a hand on her again. However, he added that he remained open to having a calm and respectful conversation with his son-in-law in the future to address their troubled marriage.

The former governor concluded his message by advising young couples to handle disagreements maturely and peacefully.

He reminded them that marriage is a journey filled with both good and challenging moments and requires patience, forgiveness, and understanding to survive.

But he emphasized that once disagreements turn into violence, the very heart of the marriage becomes damaged. No partner deserves to live in fear.

Sonko appealed to couples to choose peace, to communicate before emotions escalate, and to avoid actions that could permanently hurt the person they promised to love and protect.

He stressed that violence never resolves anything — it only breaks homes, destroys trust, and ruins the future of both partners and their children.
