Kalonzo Musyoka Criticizes President Ruto’s State of the Nation Address

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly criticized President William Ruto’s recent State of the Nation address, saying it failed to tackle key national issues such as respect for the Constitution and the rule of law.

Kalonzo made the remarks on Friday, November 21, 2025, during a major opposition rally held in Lunyinya, Malava, as part of a united opposition tour across the Western region.

Claims of Ignoring the Rule of Law

Kalonzo accused President Ruto of overlooking serious governance concerns, particularly the alleged misuse of state officers in ongoing by-election campaigns.

He claimed that despite clear evidence that some state officials were actively participating in political activities, the President had chosen to remain silent.

He further linked this situation to the resignation of Faith Odhiambo, the President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), from Ruto’s Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Demonstrations and Public Protests.

According to Kalonzo, Odhiambo stepped down because the government was failing to uphold the rule of law, making it difficult for her to serve in the panel with integrity.

Accusations of Taking Credit for Foreign-Funded Projects

Kalonzo also accused President Ruto of misleading Kenyans during his Thursday address in Parliament. He stated that the President was claiming credit for major development projects that were funded by foreign partners.

He gave an example involving a meeting between Ruto and the UK Prime Minister in Egypt, where they allegedly agreed that European partners would support Kenya in building the High Grand Falls Hydroelectric Power Station, expected to generate more than 700 megawatts.

Kalonzo claimed that despite this being a foreign-funded initiative, the President was now presenting it as a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project, an act he described as deceptive.

“This is the kind of dishonesty Kenyans are tired of—pretending that the government is doing everything alone while foreign nations are actually providing the support,” Kalonzo said.

Education Sector Concerns Raised

Also present at the rally was Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who criticized President Ruto for failing to address challenges affecting the education sector. Khalwale argued that the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) was struggling nationwide and required urgent attention, something he said the President completely ignored in his speech.

Opposition Condemns Farouk Kibet’s Presence in Malava

The opposition leaders also took issue with the presence of President Ruto’s Personal Assistant, Farouk Kibet, in Malava. They accused him of actively campaigning for the UDA candidate David Ndakwa, an action they claimed symbolized misuse of state influence in local politics.

Call to Support DAP-K Candidate Seth Panyako

Kalonzo urged residents of Malava to vote for DAP-K candidate Seth Panyako, saying that winning the seat would demonstrate the unity and growing strength of the opposition coalition.

He insisted that the united opposition team had the experience, knowledge, and leadership needed to run the country effectively.

Opposition Leaders Present

The rally brought together several top opposition figures, including:

  • George Natembeya, Governor of Trans Nzoia
  • Eugene Wamalwa, DAP-K Party Leader
  • Cleophas Malala, DCP Deputy Party Leader
  • And other senior political leaders

The leaders emphasized that their united front was committed to defending the Constitution, protecting democratic values, and providing a strong alternative voice for Kenyans.
