Kenyan Lady Left in Shock After her Tecno Camon 40 Exploded While in the Pocket.: “That’s Dangerous”

Kenyans are currently buzzing online, debating which phones are truly safe to use and which ones might pose a risk, after a shocking incident where a mobile phone suddenly exploded while a woman was carrying it in her pocket.

The woman, going about her daily activities, was left completely stunned when her phone unexpectedly burst into flames inside her pocket. As the device fell to the ground, it continued to smolder, sending smoke billowing into the air and creating a panic among bystanders.

Although the woman herself appeared visibly shaken in the moments following the incident, many people expressed relief that the situation did not result in serious injury.

A video shared on Facebook by the Nairobi Gossip Club captured the moment the phone lay on the ground, smoke rising from it. The phone, black in color, had no visible branding, which immediately led to widespread speculation online about the make and model of the device.

Netizens quickly took to social media to share both humorous and cautionary tales about phones from different brands that had disappointed them in the past. Many highlighted concerns about phone safety, with some even recalling similar incidents with their own devices.

Speaking to technicians, Derrick Amiani explained that while phone explosions are rare, they do happen. “Phones usually explode due to battery issues. They can overheat, and in some cases, this causes them to explode or even catch fire,” he said.

Social media users had varied reactions. Leon Amurri suggested, “This is what happens when moisture seeps into your phone’s battery.” Another, Bold Wigs, joked, “Which model is this? Maybe it even exploded because of a power bank.”

Lucas Juma Okal expressed concern for the owner, asking, “Which make? Was it a borrowed phone? Sorry for not asking first about the owner’s wellbeing! Considering it exploded in the pocket, was anyone hurt besides losing the gadget?”

Others shared personal experiences. Charles Dalu recalled, “Back in 2022, mine did the exact same thing and it was just four months old. It was a Poco M2 from Xiaomi.”

Some users, like Senior Counsel, took a more sarcastic approach, suggesting that the woman might have been “sending school fees for children in Makueni or for someone else’s children.”

This incident has sparked serious conversations across Kenya about phone safety and the risks of battery malfunctions, reminding everyone to stay alert and handle their devices carefully.

While phone explosions are uncommon, this case serves as a stark reminder that they can happen unexpectedly, and it’s always better to be cautious.
