Finally Pres Ruto breaks silence after police allegedly tried to K!ll Gachagua in Kariobangi Church!

Kariobangi, Nairobi — President William Ruto has broken his silence following the chaotic incident at PCEA Kariobangi North church, where Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was reportedly attacked.

The incident, which took place during a Sunday church service, has sparked nationwide debate over political violence and public safety.

Speaking on Monday, December 2, President Ruto condemned the violence and directed the National Police Service (NPS) to take decisive action.

He emphasized that the individuals responsible for the chaos — described as “goons” — must be identified and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

“Kenya is a country that follows the rule of law. Political violence and hooliganism will not be tolerated,” President Ruto stated, while urging Inspector-General Douglas Kanja to ensure that justice is served.

What Happened at the Church

The incident occurred during a thanksgiving service at PCEA Kariobangi North, held in honor of a candidate who had recently won a by-election.

According to Deputy President Gachagua, a group of youths, allegedly with police involvement, opened fire and lobbed tear gas into the church compound, leaving two supporters seriously wounded.

Gachagua described the attack as politically motivated, targeting residents who had rejected the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate.

However, the NPS has denied that tear gas was used inside the church or that gunshots were fired there.

Police reports indicate that the confrontation involved rival groups outside the church grounds, and officers responded to what they described as an attempt by armed youths to force entry onto church property.

The police confirmed six people were injured but clarified that no tear gas entered the worship hall.

Ruto’s Position

While some interpreted President Ruto’s statement as a defense of Gachagua, his remarks were largely framed around upholding law and order.

By condemning “goonism” and ordering a full investigation, Ruto signaled that political violence — regardless of the target — would not be tolerated.

Analysts suggest this move is both a political gesture to de-escalate tensions and an attempt to maintain government legitimacy.

The Road Ahead

The ongoing investigation by the NPS and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is expected to shed light on the events. Observers and civil society groups have called for transparency to ensure accountability and prevent the politicization of law enforcement.

The church incident highlights the fragile intersection of politics and religious spaces in Kenya, emphasizing the need for political actors and law enforcement agencies to uphold peace and safety for all citizens.

As the probe continues, Kenyans are watching closely to see whether those responsible for the violence will be held accountable and how this event might shape political discourse ahead of upcoming elections.
