Govt Announces New Dates for Ksh22,000 Youth Payments Under NYOTA Programme

The government has announced new dates for the final phase of payments under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme, with thousands of young people expected to benefit in the coming days.

According to the latest schedule, the disbursement of funds will take place between Thursday, February 5, and Thursday, February 12, targeting youths in several counties across the country.

This phase of the programme will cover beneficiaries from Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River, Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa counties.

The government says the payments are part of ongoing efforts to support young people who have completed the programme’s training phase and are now ready to begin income-generating activities through business start-ups.

The first batch of payments will be issued on Thursday, February 5, in Kilifi County, where beneficiaries from Kilifi, Lamu, and Tana River are expected to receive their funds.

The following day, Friday, February 6, the disbursement exercise will continue in Mombasa, covering youths from Mombasa, Kwale, and Taita Taveta counties.

Beneficiaries in Wajir County are scheduled to receive their payments on Wednesday, February 11, while those in Garissa County will receive theirs on Thursday, February 12.

The confirmation was made by the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development, Susan Mang’eni, who issued a statement on Tuesday, February 3, outlining the final disbursement plan.

She noted that the rollout of the first tranche of the NYOTA project start-up capital grant has now been finalized nationwide, marking a significant step in the implementation of the youth empowerment initiative.

The NYOTA programme is a government initiative designed to help unemployed and vulnerable youth gain economic independence through skills training, business support, and financial assistance.

Under the programme, successful applicants are given grants of up to Ksh50,000 to help them start or expand small businesses, while also receiving practical work experience aimed at improving their chances of long-term employment.

In the current phase, each beneficiary is receiving Ksh22,000 through their NYOTA mobile wallets to support the launch of their business projects.

In addition, Ksh3,000 is being deposited directly into their National Social Security Fund (NSSF) savings accounts to encourage a culture of saving and social protection among young entrepreneurs.

Beneficiaries are expected to use the funds strictly for business development purposes, and the government has indicated that progress of the funded projects will be monitored closely.

Youths who demonstrate strong business performance and responsible use of the funds may qualify for additional financial support in later stages of the programme, allowing them to expand their enterprises further.

To strengthen the chances of success, all participants will also take part in a two-month mentorship programme.

The mentorship sessions will be conducted by business development professionals and experienced local entrepreneurs, who will guide beneficiaries on financial management, business planning, and sustainable growth strategies.

The NYOTA programme targets more than 100,000 vulnerable youths across the country, covering all 1,450 wards in Kenya.

The government aims to support at least 70 beneficiaries in every ward, with the broader goal of reducing youth unemployment, promoting entrepreneurship, and improving financial inclusion among young Kenyans.
