Teen Dies After Alleged Beating by Relatives in Turbo as Police Arrest Two Suspects
Police in Turbo, Uasin Gishu County, have arrested two relatives following the death of a 19-year-old man in an incident that detectives describe as a brutal act of punishment that tragically turned fatal.
The suspects, who are said to be the uncle and aunt of the deceased, are currently in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
According to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Turbo, the victim, identified as Kevin Kipkorir Meli, died on February 2, 2026, at Kiplombe Location in Turbo Sub-County.
The arrest of the two suspects followed initial investigations that pointed to a violent assault allegedly carried out within the family compound.
Police reports indicate that officers from Baharini Police Station responded to a distress call from Kaplelach village reporting that a young man had been severely beaten.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Kevin’s body lying under an avocado tree inside his uncle’s compound.
The scene immediately raised suspicion of foul play, prompting crime scene investigators to begin documenting evidence.
Officers noted that the deceased had sustained multiple injuries on different parts of his body, including the head, back, legs, and hands.
A blood clot was also observed in his nose, an indication that he may have suffered serious internal injuries during the assault. Investigators described the injuries as consistent with a prolonged and violent beating.
The body was later moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination expected to provide further details on the exact cause of death.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident may have been triggered by allegations that the teenager had stolen and sold dry maize belonging to his uncle.
Police say the suspects allegedly decided to punish the young man over the claims, an action that investigators believe escalated into extreme violence.
Detectives further established that the victim was allegedly tied to an avocado tree using a rope before being beaten repeatedly with sticks.
Reports indicate that the assault continued for a long period, during which the young man lost consciousness. He is believed to have died as a result of the injuries sustained during the beating.
During the investigation, officers recovered a Manila rope suspected to have been used to restrain the victim, as well as broken sticks believed to have been used in the assault. The items were collected and preserved as exhibits to support the ongoing case.
Police have condemned the incident, noting that cases of violent punishment often end in tragedy and urging members of the public to seek lawful ways of resolving disputes instead of resorting to violence.
The suspects remain in custody as detectives finalize their investigations, after which they are expected to be arraigned in court to face charges related to the death.
The incident has shocked residents of the area, with many expressing concern over rising cases of domestic violence and excessive punishment within families. Authorities have assured the public that justice will be pursued as investigations continue.
