Family of Late Nderitu Gachagua Appeals to President Ruto Over Estate Dispute
The family of the late former Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua, has formally reached out to President William Ruto, asking for urgent government intervention in a long-standing and deeply contested dispute over the deceased’s estate.
In a detailed petition dated March 23, the family is calling on the Head of State to order thorough investigations into what they describe as serious cases of fraud, document forgery, and unlawful interference in the management and distribution of the late governor’s wealth.
The appeal was submitted through the Office of the Attorney General, signaling the seriousness and legal weight of the matter.
According to the family, the dispute has dragged on for years and involves a close relative who is allegedly at the center of a well-organized scheme to deny rightful beneficiaries their inheritance.
They claim that this individual has been manipulating the situation behind the scenes, using questionable methods to gain control over the estate and push aside legitimate heirs.
The petition outlines several troubling allegations, including the illegal transfer of key assets, the use of proxies and third parties to siphon resources, and forceful takeover of properties that belonged to the late governor.
At the heart of the dispute is a controversial will, which the family strongly believes is not genuine and should not be recognized under the law.
In their emotional appeal, the family expressed the pain and hardship they have endured since the death of their loved one. They stated that instead of finding closure, they have been caught in a prolonged battle marked by suffering and uncertainty.
“We, the immediate family of the late Hon. James Nderitu Gachagua, respectfully present this appeal to Your Excellency, seeking justice, protection, and the restoration of dignity to a family that has gone through immense hardship following the loss of our patriarch,” part of the letter reads.
The family further raised concerns about the timing and authenticity of the disputed will. They claim it was allegedly prepared and signed at a time when the late governor was critically ill, bedridden, and battling advanced metastatic pancreatic cancer.
This, they argue, raises serious doubts about whether he was in a position to make sound legal decisions.
They also pointed out that the document in question is labeled “Draft Last Will and Testament,” which they say clearly undermines its validity. In their view, such a label alone is enough to question its authenticity and legal standing.
One of the deceased’s daughters, Suzan Kirigo Nderitu, shared details about her father’s final days, recalling that he was admitted at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, where his condition had significantly deteriorated.
She explained that at that stage, he was too weak to read, write, or fully understand complex legal documents, making it highly unlikely that he could have executed a valid will.
The family believes that these medical facts strongly contradict the claims surrounding the will and further support their suspicions of forgery and manipulation by those seeking to benefit from the estate.
In addition, the petition accuses the unnamed relative of using political connections and influence to gain control over the estate’s resources.
They allege that funds meant to support the family’s welfare have been misused, while some family members have been denied access to properties and benefits that rightfully belong to them.
Among the key properties at the center of the dispute are a well-known garden resort and a beach resort, both of which the family insists should be restored to the estate for proper distribution among beneficiaries.
Through their appeal, the family is now hoping that President Ruto will step in to ensure justice is served, investigations are carried out transparently, and any illegally acquired assets are recovered.
They are also seeking protection from further interference and a fair resolution that will finally bring an end to years of conflict and restore unity and dignity within the family.
