Government Announces Fresh State Appointments and Reappointments Across Key Sectors
The Kenyan government has rolled out a new list of appointments and reappointments affecting several state corporations, commissions, and public boards.
These changes, published through a gazette notice on Friday, reflect ongoing efforts by different Cabinet Secretaries to restructure and strengthen leadership in critical sectors such as finance, law, education, and public enterprises.
One of the key highlights is the appointment of Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Chief Executive Officer, Frank Mwiti, who has been selected to serve on a special panel responsible for recruiting independent directors for government-owned enterprises.
This appointment was made by Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, under the provisions of the Government-Owned Enterprises Act.
According to the official notice, the panel will operate for a period of three years starting from April 17, 2026.
Its main role will be to oversee a transparent and competitive process of identifying and selecting qualified individuals to serve as independent directors in state corporations.
These directors will also serve a three-year term once appointed. Other members of the panel include Risper Olick (FCPA), Quresha Abdullahi, Joshua Wambua (FCS), and Lawrence Kibet, all of whom bring diverse professional experience to the team.
This development comes shortly after the High Court upheld the Privatisation Act, 2025, in a ruling delivered on February 19.
The court dismissed petitions that had challenged the law, effectively clearing the path for the government to proceed with plans to sell stakes in selected state-owned enterprises. The formation of the selection panel is therefore seen as a crucial step in implementing these reforms.
At the same time, CS Mbadi has also reappointed several individuals to the Privatisation Commission. Those returning to serve include Edward Kobuthi, Irene Njeri, Celine Anyango, David Nyakang’o, and Ambassador Wellington Pakia.
Their continued presence in the commission is expected to provide stability and continuity as the government advances its privatisation agenda.
In the legal sector, Attorney-General Dorcas Oduor has appointed Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior as a member of the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC).
His appointment will run for five years starting this April. He will serve alongside Annette Imbuhila Wangia, and together they are expected to contribute to the commission’s mandate of reviewing existing laws and recommending necessary reforms to improve Kenya’s legal framework.
Meanwhile, in the labour sector, Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has reappointed Isaac Kaberia and Milkah Kimonda to continue serving on the board of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).
Their new term will last for another three years, ensuring continuity in the management of one of the country’s key social protection institutions.
In the environmental and regional development sector, Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul has retained several board members at the Ewaso Ng’iro South River Basin Development Authority.
Those reappointed include Caroline Pulei, Eunice Singoei, Mathew Gathua, Elijah Kesei Metian, and Veronica Silantoi Mwangi, among others. They will continue serving for a further three-year term, supporting development initiatives in the region.
Within the Trade Ministry, Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui has also made adjustments at the Kenya Leather Development Council (KLDC).
Some members have been retained to ensure consistency in ongoing projects, including Florence John, Regina Ngima Muthami, and David Kipkemoi Rotich, who will continue contributing to the growth of the leather industry.
Additionally, in the lands sector, Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has made changes at the Valuers Registration Board.
Victor Olonde has been reappointed, while Rashid Haron Shake has been brought in as a new member. Both will serve for a term of three years, helping to regulate and oversee professional standards within the valuation industry.
Overall, these appointments signal a broader government effort to reinforce leadership, improve governance, and ensure efficiency in public institutions.
By bringing in a mix of experienced and new individuals, the administration aims to strengthen service delivery and support ongoing reforms across various sectors.
