Morara Kebaso Dumps His Party for Uhuru’s, Announces MP Bid

Morara Kebaso Joins Jubilee Party, Declares Interest in Borabu MP Seat Ahead of 2027 Elections

Political activist and lawyer Morara Kebaso has officially announced that he is leaving his political outfit, the Inject Party, and will now work under the Jubilee Party as he prepares for the 2027 General Election.

Kebaso made the announcement during an interview on Obinna TV on Monday, June 29, where he explained that the move was influenced by the political realities on the ground, particularly in the Gusii region, where he intends to pursue his political ambitions.

According to him, politics in the region is heavily shaped by established political parties, making it difficult for smaller or newer parties to compete effectively.

The outspoken activist revealed that he plans to contest for the Borabu Member of Parliament seat in the 2027 General Election. He explained that his decision to leave his own party was largely driven by the need to increase his chances of winning the parliamentary seat.

Kebaso admitted that while the Inject Party remains active, it will temporarily take a back seat as he focuses on working with Jubilee.

He noted that political leaders must sometimes adjust their strategies to fit the prevailing political environment if they hope to successfully serve the people.

He further explained that in the Gusii region, voters strongly identify with well-known political parties, making it difficult for candidates running under little-known parties to gain public support.

According to Kebaso, even candidates with strong development agendas and good leadership ideas may struggle to convince voters if they are not associated with a party that already enjoys widespread popularity in the region.

The politician pointed to the growing influence of the Jubilee Party, which is associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, saying it continues to enjoy significant support in both Kisii and Nyamira counties.

He believes this popularity has been strengthened by the decision of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to launch his presidential bid under the Jubilee banner.

Kebaso argued that because many residents in the region are already rallying behind Jubilee due to Matiang’i’s influence, it would be politically difficult for another party to make meaningful progress there.

He said joining Jubilee gives him a better opportunity to connect with voters and pursue his political goals without unnecessary obstacles.

His announcement marks a major shift from his earlier political plans. In May 2025, Kebaso declared that he would contest for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.

During that launch, he introduced the Inject Party and unveiled a manifesto that focused on improving governance, fighting corruption, and introducing reforms aimed at transforming Kenya.

One of the key promises in his presidential agenda was revitalizing the country’s agriculture sector. He said empowering young people through modern farming, increased investment, and better economic opportunities would be central to his administration if elected president. His campaign also emphasized accountability, transparency, and better management of public resources.

However, only a few weeks after unveiling his presidential ambitions, Kebaso surprised many Kenyans by announcing that he was stepping away from active politics.

He said the constant criticism, public pressure, and personal attacks he received had influenced his decision to leave the political scene.

In a statement released on June 23, 2025, Kebaso said he had chosen to return to private life, where he could focus on running his businesses, earning a living, travelling, spending time with friends, and enjoying greater personal freedom without being constantly scrutinized because of politics.

Despite that earlier announcement, his latest declaration signals a return to active politics, this time with a different strategy and a more focused goal of seeking election as the Borabu MP rather than pursuing the presidency.

Morara Kebaso first rose to national prominence during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests, when he became widely known for promoting public accountability and demanding transparency in government spending.

During that period, he attracted widespread attention by visiting various government-funded projects across the country to inspect their progress and expose those that had stalled despite receiving public funds.

His accountability campaign, popularly known as “Vampire Diaries,” involved touring different counties and documenting incomplete or abandoned government projects, many of which dated back to the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Through the initiative, Kebaso built a strong following among Kenyans who appreciated his efforts to hold public officials accountable and highlight concerns over the misuse of taxpayers’ money.

With his decision to join the Jubilee Party and contest the Borabu parliamentary seat, Kebaso is now seeking to translate his popularity as a civic activist into elective leadership as the country gradually begins preparations for the 2027 General Election.
