Protests have broken out in Roysambu as angry residents accuse Kenya Power of withholding transformers. Watch

In the vibrant neighborhood of Roysambu, Nairobi, a wave of unrest has swept through the community.

Residents, frustrated and angry, have taken to the streets, accusing Kenya Power of withholding essential transformers.

These transformers, critical for ensuring reliable electricity supply, are said to be lying unused within Kenya Power’s premises.

The protestors claim that the company has been deceitful, asserting that there are no transformers available, while, in reality, several units are reportedly stored in their warehouses.

The residents’ frustration has been brewing for some time, fueled by frequent power outages and unreliable service.

Many homes and businesses in Roysambu have suffered due to the inconsistent electricity supply, which has led to disrupted livelihoods and damaged appliances.

The situation has been particularly challenging for small business owners, who rely heavily on a stable power supply to run their operations.

Without electricity, many have faced significant financial losses, unable to serve customers or keep products fresh.

The protestors are demanding transparency and immediate action from Kenya Power.

They argue that access to a stable electricity supply is a basic right and that the utility company’s failure to provide it is unacceptable.

Holding banners and chanting slogans, the residents marched through the streets, expressing their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

Some even carried placards calling for accountability and better management of resources, urging Kenya Power to release the withheld transformers and address the ongoing power issues.

Amid the growing tensions, local leaders and activists have joined the calls for change, urging Kenya Power to listen to the grievances of the community.

They emphasize the importance of reliable electricity not only for individual households but also for the overall development of the area.

They argue that without proper infrastructure and services, neighborhoods like Roysambu cannot thrive or attract new businesses and investments.

Kenya Power has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations, but the company’s representatives are expected to address the concerns soon.

Meanwhile, the residents of Roysambu remain steadfast in their demands, determined to hold the utility accountable for what they perceive as negligence and dishonesty.

The unfolding situation highlights the broader challenges facing Kenya’s energy sector, including the need for better infrastructure, transparency, and efficient service delivery.
