Rigathi Gachagua Accuses NIS Officer of Trailing Him, Sends a Strong Message to Government
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on the government to withdraw a vehicle and an intelligence officer he claims have been following him.
Gachagua alleged that the officer trailed him on Wednesday while traveling from Nairobi to Kalawa Ward in Mbooni Constituency, Makueni County, for a burial ceremony.
The distance between Nairobi and Kalawa is almost 200 kilometers.
In a public statement, Gachagua criticized the deployment of the officer and the vehicle, stating they could be better used to improve the nation’s security.
He argued that it was wasteful to use resources such as fuel and working hours on unnecessary surveillance.
“The officer and car could be assigned more meaningful duties to strengthen our country’s security instead of following me all the way from Nairobi to Makueni,” Gachagua said.
He further accused the government of surveilling him, urging them to station officers locally in Makueni if they wanted to monitor his activities.
“It would be more cost-effective to have officers in Makueni listen to my speeches, record, and share with their superiors instead of wasting public resources,” he stated.
Gachagua shared images of the car and the officer he alleges were tracking him on his social media accounts.
This is not the first time Gachagua has made such claims. Since his impeachment in October 2024, he has repeatedly accused state agencies of monitoring him.
Last month, he alleged that unmarked vehicles had been trailing him and keeping watch on his Nairobi and Nyeri residences.
At the time, he specifically blamed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), but the agency denied these accusations.
