The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) confirmed that the suspect, identified as Joshua Wasakha Wangeni, was caught during an operation after he reportedly demanded a bribe of Ksh 300,000 from a complainant.
According to the EACC, the suspect had disconnected electricity at a godown in Nairobi and demanded the hefty bribe as a “facilitation fee” to restore power.
After negotiations, the amount was reduced to Ksh 200,000. However, the complainant declined to pay the revised figure and instead reported the incident to the EACC.

The EACC reiterated its commitment to addressing bribery at service delivery points, a practice that has frustrated many Kenyans seeking public services.
The commission encouraged citizens to report such cases, emphasizing that holding corrupt individuals accountable is critical to improving service delivery across the country.
This incident highlights the persistent challenges of corruption within key institutions and the importance of sustained efforts to promote integrity and accountability in public service.
