A new development has emerged in the ongoing controversy surrounding the man widely referred to online as the “Russian guy.”
Authorities have now clarified that the individual at the center of the viral videos may not actually be Russian, contrary to what many social media users had believed.
On Tuesday, February 17, the Russian government addressed the matter and stated that the man whose name has been circulating online is not officially confirmed to be a Russian citizen.
In fact, officials noted that the name being widely shared on social media does not match any genuine Russian name.
According to them, the trending name is not authentic but rather appears to be a vulgar expression in the Russian language.
This clarification came shortly after the government of Ghana summoned Russian Ambassador Sergei Berdnikov to provide answers over the unlawful circulation of sexually explicit images involving Ghanaian women. The meeting followed public outrage over the disturbing content that had spread widely online.
During the meeting, Ambassador Berdnikov admitted that the matter was serious and troubling. He acknowledged that the publication of such intimate material without consent is a clear violation of privacy and may also fall under cybercrime offenses.
However, he made it clear that he could not confirm the nationality of the man in question. He further emphasized that the name trending on social media does not correspond to any legitimate Russian identity, adding that it is, in fact, an offensive slang term.
The ambassador also disclosed that Russian authorities were already aware of the individual’s activities beyond Ghana.
According to him, investigations are ongoing, with Russian cybercrime experts reportedly examining the matter to establish the true identity of the suspect and determine any possible links.
This latest revelation has significantly shifted the direction of public discussion. Initially, much of the attention focused on the man’s alleged Russian nationality.
Now, the main concern is establishing who he truly is, where he is from, and whether the identity presented online was deliberately fabricated to mislead the public.
Earlier reports had claimed that the viral figure was a 36-year-old content creator known as Yaytseslav, who described himself as a “pickup artist” from Ulyanovsk, Russia.
He allegedly used his social media platforms to share explicit content involving women from different countries.
However, it has now emerged that “Yaytseslav” is not his real name. Instead, it appears to be a pseudonym or online alias he uses when posting content.
The name, which gained traction across various platforms, is now being described as part of an online persona rather than proof of his true nationality or identity.
Meanwhile, the matter has also drawn attention in Kenya, where investigations are ongoing. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) launched a probe following instructions from the Ministry of Gender.
Authorities are seeking to identify victims, gather evidence, and take appropriate legal action against those responsible.
In a statement released on February 17, DCI officers urged any victims or witnesses to come forward and record formal statements.
They assured members of the public that all information would be handled with strict confidentiality and professionalism.
The DCI expressed deep concern over the circulation of intimate content involving Kenyan women, describing it as a serious violation of privacy, dignity, and the law.
Officials emphasized that such acts not only harm the individuals involved but also undermine public safety and digital security.
Authorities further reassured victims that reporting the matter would not expose them to further harm or public embarrassment. They stated that trained officers are fully prepared to handle the case with care, sensitivity, and discretion.
As investigations continue across different countries, the focus has now shifted from speculation about nationality to uncovering the real identity behind the online persona.
The unfolding events highlight the growing challenges posed by cybercrime, digital exploitation, and the misuse of social media platforms, as governments work together to address cross-border online offenses.
