Murkomen Orders Crackdown in Ruto’s Backyard Over Rising Insecurity
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a strong directive to security agencies in Uasin Gishu County, calling for an immediate crackdown on what he described as increasing lawlessness, hooliganism, and political violence in the area.
The CS raised concern over what appears to be a growing culture of impunity, especially in Eldoret City, where cases of crime and the use of suspected political gangs have reportedly been on the rise.
According to Murkomen, the situation is becoming unacceptable and requires urgent intervention from both the police and county security teams.
Speaking on Saturday, March 28, during the burial ceremony of Mzee Elkana Terigin in Cheptiret, Uasin Gishu County, Murkomen expressed deep concern over the trend.
He pointed out that it was particularly alarming because Uasin Gishu is the home county of William Ruto. He emphasized that the region should set an example when it comes to maintaining peace, order, and respect for the rule of law.
Murkomen made it clear that no individual or group would be given special treatment, regardless of their political connections or influence.
He warned that those engaging in criminal activities, especially under the protection of powerful individuals, would face the full force of the law.
“I have directed the county security team that no one will be favoured or treated as special. This is the President’s backyard, and we must decisively deal with all goons,” Murkomen stated firmly.
In addition to the issue of political gangs, the CS also highlighted another worrying trend involving criminal groups targeting victims of road accidents. He specifically mentioned areas such as Cheptiret, where such incidents have reportedly occurred.
Murkomen called for increased police patrols, improved mobility, and more coordinated security operations to ensure that such vulnerable victims are protected and that perpetrators are arrested.
At the same time, Murkomen addressed the ongoing investigations into the shocking discovery of mass graves in Kericho County.
He revealed that at least six suspects have already been arrested in connection with the case and assured the public that they will be charged in court in line with the law.
The CS did not hold back in criticizing officials from Nyamira County, particularly those linked to the management of Nyamira County Referral Hospital.
He alleged that some officials may have been involved in a secretive and illegal operation related to the burial of bodies found in the mass graves.
According to Murkomen, preliminary investigations suggest there could have been coordination between certain health officials from Nyamira and the caretaker of Makaburini Public Cemetery in Kericho.
This alleged collaboration, he said, raises serious questions about how the bodies were handled and buried.
He explained that there had been a valid court order allowing for the disposal of a specific number of bodies from Nyamira County Referral Hospital. However, he noted that the process was not conducted transparently or in accordance with proper procedures.
Instead, the burials were reportedly carried out secretly and at night, which he described as both unlawful and unacceptable.
“What happened is not acceptable. There was a court order for the disposal of bodies, and it clearly stated the number involved. That process was not supposed to be done in darkness,” Murkomen said.
He further accused the Nyamira County administration of organizing the burials in a hidden and improper manner, adding that all those involved have since been arrested and will face charges.
Murkomen concluded by assuring Kenyans that the government is fully committed to restoring security, enforcing accountability, and ensuring that justice is served in both the insecurity cases in Uasin Gishu and the disturbing mass graves investigation.
