Ruto Promises Action Over Disputed Gachagua Family Properties
President William Ruto has now publicly addressed a growing dispute involving properties linked to the late former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua, following an emotional appeal from the deceased leader’s family.
Speaking in Naivasha on Sunday, March 29, the Head of State responded firmly after receiving a formal letter from the family, which raised serious concerns about how the late governor’s estate has been handled.
In his remarks, Ruto assured the public that the issues raised would not be ignored and that steps would be taken to ensure justice is served.
The President made it clear that he is prepared to intervene, especially where vulnerable family members may have been affected.
He strongly emphasized the need to protect the rights of widows and orphans, stating that any property believed to have been unfairly taken must be returned to its rightful owners.
According to Ruto, no amount of criticism directed at him would stop him from standing up for those he believes have been wronged.
He specifically mentioned key properties, including a hotel located in Nairobi and a residential home in Kilifi, which the family claims were taken through questionable means.
Ruto urged that such assets should be handed back, adding a moral perspective by referencing biblical teachings that highlight the importance of defending widows and orphans.
This marked the first time the President has publicly commented on the matter since the family of the late Nderitu Gachagua reached out to him earlier in the week.
In their letter dated Monday, March 23, the family made a direct appeal to the President, asking him to step in and order investigations into what they described as possible fraud, forgery, and illegal interference in the management of the estate.
In the letter, the family expressed deep frustration and pain, stating that they have endured years of suffering since the passing of their patriarch.
They claimed that certain individuals close to the family had allegedly manipulated the situation to deny rightful beneficiaries their inheritance.
According to them, the situation has caused emotional and financial hardship, leaving some family members feeling sidelined and powerless.
A major issue raised in the letter concerns the validity of the will that has been used to distribute the estate. The family questioned whether the document was genuine, suggesting that it may have been forged or altered as part of a calculated attempt to disinherit legitimate heirs.
They pointed out that the will was reportedly signed at a time when the late governor was seriously ill and battling advanced pancreatic cancer, raising doubts about his capacity at the time.
The family argued that these circumstances cast serious suspicion over the authenticity of the document and called for a thorough and independent investigation to establish the truth.
Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly denied the allegations being made against him.
Responding to the claims, he accused President Ruto of interfering in what he described as a private family matter that should be handled through legal channels rather than public or political intervention.
Gachagua maintained that the succession process was conducted lawfully and in full compliance with Kenyan legal procedures. He explained that after the will was read, all beneficiaries agreed on its contents and proceeded to court, where the matter was formalized.
According to him, the case was presented before a judge in 2018, and all parties involved confirmed their agreement with the terms outlined in the will.
He insisted that the process followed the law and dismissed claims of wrongdoing as unfounded and misleading.
The unfolding dispute has now drawn national attention, with many Kenyans closely watching how the situation will develop.
As the President signals possible intervention and the former Deputy President stands his ground, the matter is likely to spark further legal and political debate in the coming days.
