Fresh CCTV footage has now revealed the chilling moment Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was violently attacked by suspected goons inside a Java House outlet at West End Mall in Kisumu.
The incident, which happened on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, has triggered national outrage and renewed concerns over rising political intolerance in the country.
According to the surveillance video, Senator Osotsi had just settled inside the restaurant after visiting the Acacia area for a routine haircut and later meeting a friend. Moments later, two men approached him aggressively before launching a brutal assault in full view of staff and customers.
One of the attackers, dressed in a black T-shirt and cap, is seen striking the senator repeatedly as he falls to the ground. Another suspect wearing a white hoodie joins in, kicking him several times as he tries to crawl away from danger.
The footage further shows the lawmaker bleeding and struggling to shield himself while terrified patrons watch from a distance.
A member of staff briefly attempted to intervene, but the attackers appeared determined and continued raining blows on the senator until restaurant workers and bystanders stepped in.
The brazen nature of the attack, carried out in a busy public space, has shocked many Kenyans and sparked widespread condemnation from leaders across the political divide.
Preliminary reports indicate that the assailants confronted Osotsi over his political stand, particularly his association with the Linda Mwananchi / one-term movement.
Sources close to the senator say the attackers questioned his political allegiance before turning violent, raising fears that the incident may have been politically motivated.
Following the assault, the senator was rushed for emergency treatment in Kisumu before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical care.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna later confirmed that Osotsi was badly injured but stable, saying doctors at Karen Hospital were closely monitoring his recovery.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since condemned the attack as “brazen and cowardly” and confirmed that detectives are carrying out a forensic review of the CCTV footage to identify and arrest those involved.
Investigators say the motive has not yet been officially established, but crucial leads are already being pursued.
The incident has now become a major political talking point, with leaders including James Orengo, Kalonzo Musyoka, Junet Mohamed, and Edwin Sifuna demanding swift arrests and warning against the normalisation of violence in Kenya’s democratic space.
As pressure mounts on police, many are now waiting to see whether the faces captured in the CCTV footage will lead to quick arrests.
