Kenyan football fans may have a huge reason to celebrate this August, as reports indicate that a pre-season match between European giants FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC could take place in Nairobi.
As the 2025/26 season heads toward its conclusion, both clubs have already started organising their pre-season schedules, and Kenya has emerged as one of the possible destinations for a major friendly encounter.
Unlike previous years when Barcelona travelled to places such as the United States and Asia, the club is said to be planning a more focused preparation programme this time.
Head coach Hansi Flick reportedly prefers a schedule with less travel so that players can recover well, maintain fitness, and avoid exhaustion before the new season begins.
Following internal planning meetings, Barcelona are expected to spend around 15 days in England for a training camp. During that stay, they will use high-level facilities and face strong competition in warm-up matches.
One fixture in Birmingham has already been lined up for July 30, while another possible match may be added during the England camp.
However, the most exciting part for supporters in Kenya is the possibility of Barcelona travelling to Nairobi on August 8, 2026, for a blockbuster showdown against Liverpool.
If the plans are confirmed, the match would become one of the biggest football events ever staged in Kenya. It would give local fans a rare chance to watch two of the world’s most famous clubs competing live on Kenyan soil.
Barcelona supporters would be hoping to see talented stars such as Lamine Yamal and Pedri in action.
Liverpool followers would also be excited to watch key players like Hugo Ekitike, creative midfielder Florian Wirtz, and energetic playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai perform in Nairobi.
The proposed match could also bring back memories of the unforgettable 2019 UEFA Champions League semi-final, when Liverpool produced an incredible comeback victory by beating Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield.
Even as Nairobi remains a strong option, Barcelona are also considering another friendly in Morocco, with discussions still taking place.
If everything goes ahead as planned, the possible Barcelona versus Liverpool clash in Nairobi could create unforgettable memories and give Kenyan football fans a historic experience.
