Njoroge was allegedly subjected to physical assault, leaving his clothing bloodstained.

The defense team for assault suspect Ian Njoroge made a startling accusation in court on Tuesday, alleging that officers involved in his arrest subjected him to inhumane treatment.

Duncan Okatch and Vincent Lempaa, presenting their case before Magistrate BenMark at the Milimani law courts, alleged that 19-year-old Njoroge was subjected to molestation in his own home during the time of his arrest.

“The defendant, a first-year student at a public university with aspirations for the future, was taken into custody at his parents’ home,” said the defense attorney. “Upon arrival at the station, he was allegedly subjected to physical assault, leaving his clothing bloodstained.”

The prosecution argued in court that a short video depicting Njoroge being interrogated serves as clear evidence of mistreatment, as the officers were seen hurling insults at him.

According to statements presented in court, the defendant’s legal counsel asserted, “Based on what the complainant did to him in that car, it’s evident he was manhandled by the complainant.”

Njoroge entered a plea of not guilty to charges of robbery with violence, causing grievous harm, and resisting arrest.

He is alleged to have committed the offenses on Sunday of this year at Kamiti Road in Kasarani, where eyewitnesses reported seeing him assaulting a police officer during a routine traffic stop.

The court granted the prosecution’s request for one day to detain Njoroge at Industrial Area prison, with arrangements for him to be escorted to Kenyatta Hospital and accompanied by a parent.
