Njoroge’s family is required to issue a public apology to both Ogendo and the national police service.

The Kasarani police officer who was attacked by a teen while on duty has forgiven him.

After mediation by former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, the police officer opted to extend forgiveness to Ian Njoroge.

Sonko’s release of a phone call recording on June 5, 2024, reveals Ogendo’s expressed desire to meet Njoroge’s family for reconciliation and forgiveness.

As per the agreement, the family is required to issue a public apology to both Ogendo and the national police service.

This comes at a time when there’s a lot of concern about Njoroge who was harassed and mistreated during his arrest.

During the incident, Ogendo vehemently denied soliciting a bribe from the driver.

At the court, the defense asserted that Ogendo had requested Ksh 10,000 from Njoroge, who was accused of a traffic offense.

Despite facing three charges, he vehemently denied all accusations as the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) urged for Njoroge’s detention pending further investigation.

Njoroge stands accused of theft, allegedly taking a police communication device and a phone valued at Ksh50,000 from Corporal Ogendo, in addition to causing him serious harm.

On the other hand, Ruth Nyambura, the mother of Njoroge has defended her son after the viral assault video.

“Having attended Sunshine Secondary School on Langata Road, he is a well-mannered and obedient boy, consistently displaying politeness and calmness, leaving me curious about what might have caused a change in him.”

As recounted by Nyambura, her son clarified that the ordeal started when Njoroge made a U-turn, prompting the police officer to purportedly demand a bribe of Sh10,000.

“He told me he was asked for Sh10,000, which he didn’t have. He planned to call his friends to contribute, but could only offer Sh5000 to the police, which was also refused. Some matatu guys intervened, urging the police to return his car keys. He was anxious about being late to pick up his sister for church, which added to his agitation,” she summarized.”

Nyambura dismissed allegations of a sword being in the car, emphasizing that she, as the car owner, has never stored such an item inside it.

Despite offering an apology for her son’s conduct, Nyambura urged the public to avoid spreading unfounded rumors.
