In a recent address, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua called upon artists to play a pivotal role in shaping societal values by creating content that resonates across generations, with a particular emphasis on fostering positive influences for children.

Speaking at the launch of ‘The Bahati’s Empire’ reality show in Nairobi, he emphasized artists’ pivotal role in shaping society’s moral direction.

Deputy President Gachagua urged artists to shun drug abuse and raise awareness of its negative impacts for a healthier nation.

The Bahati’s Empire marks a significant milestone as the inaugural Kenyan reality show to premiere on Netflix, reaching over 222 million subscribers across 190 countries worldwide.

Deputy President Gachagua, while commending Bahati for this achievement, emphasized the potential of content creation to shape societal morals, emphasizing the importance of preserving, promoting, and projecting cultural values.

“Kenya as a society, we have values. We also have traditions and culture that we uphold. We have children who watch your content. What are you (artists) telling them? Be mindful of our children. Come up with content that does not corrupt our young people,” the Deputy President told the forum, comprising leading Kenyans in the creative industry.

Through this debut show,” Mr. Gachagua expressed, “Bahati has exemplified to other artists the potential to break barriers and instigate positive change through content creation.” He added, “As Bahati leads the charge, we have an occasion to showcase Kenya’s diverse entertainment offerings globally, emphasizing clean, compelling, educational, and impactful content.”

Numerous artists spanning different genres within the creative industry graced the launch event. Mr. Gachagua urged their collective commitment to abstaining from drug abuse and backing the government’s efforts in combatting this scourge.
