Kivuti died at the Nairobi Hospital where she was transferred for specialized care after the shooting incident

Makadara Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti has succumbed to injuries inflicted during a violent altercation at Madaraka law courts.

Kivuti died at the Nairobi Hospital where she was transferred for specialized care after the shooting incident. She sustained critical gunshot wounds to the chest and pelvic area, leading to her untimely demise.

According to a statement made by CJ Koome, she emphasized the Judiciary’s solidarity and urges for sensitivity and compassion.

“At this deeply traumatic time, we stand united as the Judiciary family, calling for sensitivity and compassion as we mourn. May Hon. Kivuti’s soul rest in eternal peace.”

The magistrate was tragically shot by Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Londiani Police Station, while presiding over a court session.

The incident unfolded when Chief Inspector Kipruto forcibly entered the courtroom and opened fire. The attack has sent shockwaves throughout the legal and law enforcement communities, raising concerns over security protocols in judicial settings.

Responding officers quickly neutralized the threat, fatally shooting Chief Inspector Kipruto. The scene was one of chaos and violence, with a court orderly and two other officers being wounded in their brave attempts to rescue Magistrate Kivuti and secure the courtroom.

The motive behind this tragic incident appears to be personal. According to police reports, Chief Inspector Kipruto’s actions were triggered by the court’s decision to remand his wife, Jennifer Wairimu, who was facing charges of obtaining money by false pretense. Wairimu, aged 48, had been accused of defrauding individuals out of Ksh.2.9 million, a charge that led to her bond being revoked for violating its terms.
