Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua voiced sharp criticism against unnamed figures within President William Ruto’s inner circle, accusing them of overstepping their bounds and attempting to assert authority over him.

Addressing a gathering during the launch of the Mume ni Kazi Foundation by Kirinyaga Woman Rep Njeri Maina, Gachagua expressed frustration with individuals he described as President Ruto’s personal assistants and bloggers, blaming them for his recent challenges.

“I will not allow people who hang around the President to think they are my bosses and can command me. These individuals, including PAs and bloggers, want to tell me what to do. If you are a friend of the President, please keep your friendship with him and leave me alone.”

Gachagua emphasized that his allegiance lies solely with the Kenyan electorate and President Ruto himself, dismissing any attempts by others to influence his decisions.

“Only my boss, whom I know by name, and the people of Kenya who voted for us can tell me what to do and not anyone else,”

The Deputy President’s remarks underscored growing tensions within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, particularly following criticism leveled against him for his stance on uniting the Mt Kenya region and his support for the “one man, one shilling, one vote” campaign.

Additionally, Gachagua addressed the historical opposition he faced within UDA, recounting how he was initially opposed as President Ruto’s running mate but was eventually chosen due to President Ruto’s decision. He highlighted challenges he faced, including personal humiliation and political sabotage, but reaffirmed his dedication to delivering electoral support from Rift Valley and Central regions.

“The President entrusted me to secure votes from Rift Valley and Central, and I delivered despite challenges,” Gachagua asserted, recalling past efforts and current criticisms. He further criticized attempts to discredit him, citing opposition to his participation in the Deputy Presidential Debate and ongoing disparagement from certain quarters.

In response to the launch event, Woman Rep Njeri Maina expressed gratitude for Gachagua’s mentorship and steadfast leadership. “I will never disrespect the Deputy President of this republic of Kenya,” she affirmed, underscoring the supportive relationship between Gachagua and local leaders despite internal party discord.
