Protests erupted in the capital today as demonstrators opposed to the controversial Finance Bill clashed with police. The protesters, who have been vocal in their opposition to the bill, which they argue will unfairly burden the middle and lower classes with additional taxes, attempted to storm the Parliament Buildings. Chanting slogans and carrying banners, they were met with a heavy police presence determined to maintain order and prevent any breach of the legislative premises.

The situation quickly escalated as protesters engaged in running battles with the police. Tear gas was deployed to disperse the crowds, but the demonstrators, undeterred, continued to press forward. Several protestors hurled stones and other projectiles at the officers, who responded with baton charges and further tear gas canisters. The clashes resulted in multiple injuries on both sides, with paramedics seen tending to the wounded amidst the chaos.

Public transport in the vicinity ground to a halt as the clashes intensified, and several businesses closed their doors, fearing damage and looting. The government has called for calm, urging protesters to voice their grievances through peaceful and lawful means. However, opposition leaders have criticized the heavy-handed police tactics and reiterated their call for the withdrawal of the Finance Bill.

As night fell, the situation remained tense but somewhat contained, with sporadic confrontations continuing in various parts of the city. The protests, fueled by growing public dissatisfaction, underscore the deep divisions over economic policy and governance. Authorities have vowed to restore order while protesters have pledged to continue their fight, setting the stage for further potential unrest in the days to come.
