Preacher Nick Korir of Nairobi Chapel said the youths did well to stand up against corruption in the country

He condemned police brutality during the demonstrations that led to some youths being hospitalised and the demise of two protesters

The church also indicated that they will not support the finance bill, claiming that Kenya Kwanza has failed to deliver on several promises

Nairobi – Churches have maintained their backing for Gen Z following their protests against the contentious Finance Bill 2024.

How did Nairobi Chapel react to Gen Zs’ demos?

Nairobi Chapel on Ngong Road praised the younger generation for their bravery in showing patriotism and striving for the nation’s freedom.

Moreover, they commended them for their stance against corruption at a crucial time when politics dominates decision-making processes.

“Never before has this nation seen young, smart, educated Kenyans; rise above the tribal, religious, political, and social divide; leverage on technology and step out of their comfort zones to come out together in one of the most powerful displays of patriotism.

We are proud of you for stepping out and speaking out. Thank you for your fearless stand against injustice. Thank you for holding leaders and institutions to account. Thank you for your zero tolerance against corruption. Thank you for making history – for ushering us into a new dispensation – and for opening a new chapter for this Nation!” said Nick Korir, senior pastor.

What’s Nairobi Chapel’s stand on Finance Bill 2024?

Korir observed that the protests were conducted peacefully, with youths refraining from burning tyres, blocking roads, vandalizing shops, or damaging cars.

The chapel further expressed its solidarity with Generation Z in opposing the finance bill, citing frustration over excessive spending and perceived mismanagement by the Kenya Kwanza government.

“Your anger and your frustration with the current economic situation is valid! We join you to say NO; because we are fed up with the status quo and empty promises. We are fed up with the indiscipline, exorbitant expenditure and careless financial management,” he affirmed.

Nairobi Chapel condemns police brutality

In reaction to police brutality resulting in several protesters being hospitalised, Pastor Korir strongly denounced the actions and the killings. They urged the youths to press on.

“Listen: take a humble posture, stop chest-thumping – because these too are citizens of this great nation, and they, too, need your respect. To this generation, don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity,” stated the reverend’s note.
