The Jubilee Christian Church in Parklands, Nairobi, was filled with emotion on Sunday as Rev. Kathy Kiuna, co-founder and widow of Bishop Allan Kiuna, recounted the heart-wrenching final moments before her husband’s passing.

The congregation gathered to celebrate the life of Bishop Allan Kiuna, who passed away at the age of 57.

Speaking at the church’s headquarters, Rev. Kiuna expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support she and her family had received.

She shared the painful experience of witnessing her husband’s decline, revealing that despite their hopes for his recovery, Bishop Kiuna felt his time had come and desired “to go home.”

“When my best friend got to the end of the road, he kept saying, ‘I want to go home.’ We kept countering it, refusing, rejecting it with everything in us. And when he’d say, ‘I want to get home,’ we would say, no. He’d say, no. Stop.”

Rev. Kiuna described how she and her family tried to convince the Bishop that he was already home, but he persistently referred to a different home, one with the Lord in heaven.

“We would say, you’re already home, you don’t need to say such things. And then he would say, they are coming (the angels)… We would say, chase them away. We would tell them, go back. Why are you coming? Go back. And I couldn’t imagine life without him,” she shared.

In a moment of raw honesty, Rev. Kiuna revealed that she had wished to take his place, believing that it was the Bishop who had the vision for their church.

“God, you have such a sense of humor. I thought you’d rather take me and keep him. Because he has the vision. He knows where we are going.

He knows all these,” she said, quoting 2 Chronicles 20:12, “O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

Despite her uncertainty about the future direction of the church, Rev. Kiuna remains steadfast in her faith, leaning on scripture for guidance. She admitted to the congregation that she does not know the path ahead but is relying on God’s wisdom and strength.
