A 16-year-old boy arrested during the Tuesday, July 23 demonstrations in Mlolongo has been released on a free bond.

Methusellah Kiama, a school-going teenager, went viral after his rough arrest by police, which was widely shared on social media.

Despite his release, Kiama is expected to appear before a Magistrate at the Mavoko Law Court on July 26.

Footage of Kiama’s arrest showed several police officers ordering him to kneel and interrogating him before handcuffing him.

His brother, @tants_arts on X, stated that Kiama was not protesting but was running errands for their family when he was wrongfully arrested and bullied.

Following a public outcry on social media, with many sharing ‘#FreeKiama’ posters, the teenager was eventually released.

His brother expressed gratitude to those who supported their cause but questioned why Kiama had to appear in court instead of attending school for his exams.
