The Standard Group has announced the shutdown of KTN News and KTN Farmers TV, marking a significant restructuring within the media organization.

This decision, part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and reduce costs, follows the company’s recent plan to lay off approximately 300 employees.

KTN News, the company’s 24-hour news channel, will be merged with KTN Home, which focuses on regular programming.

This consolidation aims to enhance operational efficiency in a challenging media environment.

The closure of KTN Farmers TV, which provided specialized agricultural content, further reflects the Standard Group’s efforts to adapt to the evolving media landscape.

The company has yet to provide detailed explanations regarding the implications of this closure for its remaining staff or future programming.

The move underscores the ongoing struggle of news organizations to balance financial sustainability with their role in public information dissemination.

KTN, established in 1990 as Kenya’s first privately-owned television station, has been a significant player in the media industry.

Known for its innovative programming and commitment to diverse voices, KTN News quickly became popular for its continuous coverage and in-depth analysis of current affairs.
