Morara Kebaso, a political activist and lawyer, was recently arrested at his office in Kahawa Sukari by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

His detention has sparked public outrage, with protests outside Milimani Law Courts demanding his release.

Supporters, including prominent political figures like Martha Karua and Eugene Wamalwa, rallied for him during court appearances.

Kebaso’s arrest has been tied to allegations of cyber harassment under Kenya’s Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, following claims that he defamed Uasin Gishu businessman David Langat by accusing him of financing President William Ruto’s campaign using loans secured with his properties(

While in custody, Kebaso expressed concerns about his safety, particularly after enduring harsh treatment.

Reports suggested he was exposed to harmful conditions, such as ammonia fumes, while in police cells.

His supporters have voiced frustration, chanting freedom songs outside the court, calling for his immediate release, and asserting that his arrest is politically motivated(

Kebaso was later released on a Ksh 50,000 cash bail, pending a decision on whether the case against him would proceed.

His supporters remain vigilant, continuing to raise awareness about what they perceive as an attack on freedom of speech and civic engagement.
