Chaos Erupts as Armed Men Try to Abduct Man Who Retrieved Kware Bodies

Drama Unfolds as Armed Men Try to Abduct Man Known for Retrieving Kware Dumpsite Bodies

Chaos erupted on Wednesday morning after a group of heavily armed men attempted to abduct a man who gained public attention months ago for retrieving bodies from the Kware dumpsite.

Reports from the Mukuru Community Justice Center revealed that the armed men, believed to be police officers, tried to seize the man while he was at Kware Rapture Church.

“Pastor Wa Vijana, one of the volunteers in the #MukuruDarkestHour rescue mission, was saved by members of the public as unknown men, suspected to be police officers, tried to abduct him at Kware Rapture Church,” the Justice Center reported.

Fortunately, the man managed to escape the dramatic attempt, fleeing on his motorbike. He left behind his phone, which fell into the hands of the armed men.

The motive behind the attempted arrest remains unclear as authorities have not released an official statement regarding the incident.

The Mukuru Community Justice Center strongly condemned the incident, calling for an immediate halt to what they termed as the profiling and intimidation of volunteers who helped recover bodies at the dumpsite. “We strongly condemn this act.

The government must stop trailing, intimidating, and harassing volunteers who stepped up to retrieve the bodies.

The state failed to fulfill its duty, and these brave individuals stepped in out of love for our country.”

This latest incident comes just two weeks after the retrievers voiced their frustrations to human rights organizations, including the Mukuru Social Justice Centre.

They claimed they had not received any counseling or psychological support following the traumatic exercise.

According to these volunteers, instead of being recognized for their efforts, they have been subjected to threats, harassment, and even the risk of arrest.

Some feared for their lives. “After we retrieved nine bodies on the first day, protests broke out in the community. Police began engaging Mukuru residents in running battles.

As if the trauma of recovering bodies wasn’t enough, 15 residents were shot during these clashes, one of whom tragically lost their life,” one of the volunteers recounted.

The community continues to call for justice and accountability for the volunteers and the residents affected by the events surrounding the Kware dumpsite incident.
