Youth Issues new Directives to Police After MCA attacked & Beaten Up by goons in Nairobi CBD

Youth Leaders Demand Police Action After Nairobi MCA Attacked

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth Leadership from Westlands strongly condemned the recent attack on Kitusuru Member of County Assembly (MCA) Alvin Olando, calling for justice and accountability.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, the youth leaders linked the assault to Olando’s bold stance against corruption in Nairobi City County.

Olando claimed he was targeted after refusing to engage in corrupt practices involving bribery for building approvals.

He stated that some developers were being pressured to pay bribes for their construction projects to be approved, and his resistance to this led to the violent attack.

Evans Ochieng, the ODM Westlands Youth Leader, denounced the assault, describing it as a cowardly act meant to intimidate leaders committed to justice.

“As young people, we strongly condemn all forms of political violence and thuggery. Such barbaric actions have no place in a society striving for democracy and progress,” Ochieng emphasized.

He urged authorities to take swift action and hold those responsible accountable.

The youth leaders demanded that law enforcement agencies move quickly to investigate and ensure justice prevails.

They warned that the attack was not just an assault on Olando but a direct threat to democracy and good governance.

“We call on security agencies to act with urgency and ensure those behind this shameful act face the full force of the law. Violence cannot be allowed to silence leaders who stand against corruption,” they declared.

The brutal incident occurred in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) near the former Seamers Club.

Olando was attacked by a group of around seven young men, leaving him with injuries to his head, hand, and mouth. He was later treated at Aga Khan Hospital and discharged.

The assault has sparked widespread outrage among political leaders and organizations.

On Tuesday, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi condemned the attack, calling it a barbaric act that goes against democratic principles and freedom of expression.

Nairobi MCAs have also voiced their disapproval of the incident. Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai pointed fingers at certain individuals within Nairobi City County whom he suspects were behind the attack.

Alai firmly stated, “We will not be silenced or intimidated. As leaders, it is our duty to criticize the governor when the people of Nairobi are being failed. We will not back down.”

Kariobangi MCA Joel Munuve also shared his concerns, recalling his own experience of being attacked by hired goons during the opening of Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital last year.

He emphasized that such acts of violence appear to be part of a troubling pattern of political intimidation.

The ODM youth leaders stressed the importance of political tolerance and peaceful dialogue, urging leaders and citizens to embrace unity despite differing opinions.

They called for the rejection of violence and the promotion of respect for diverse political views as key steps toward building a progressive society.
