Protests by Kenyatta University Students Over Prolonged Blackout

On Monday, January 27, students from Kenyatta University staged demonstrations along the Thika Superhighway to protest a week-long power outage in one of the campus hostels. Transport activities were significantly disrupted near the Kahawa area as the students erected barricades and lit fires on the road.

Glen Karani, the president of the Kenyatta University Students Association, criticized the authorities for failing to resolve the matter despite an earlier ultimatum. He emphasized the students’ frustration over the prolonged delay in restoring electricity.

Videos shared on social media show chaotic scenes as commuters were stranded due to blocked roads. Authorities have yet to issue a statement addressing the concerns raised by the protesting students.
