Kimilili Member of Parliament, Didmus Barasa, has been a figure of significant controversy in Kenyan politics.
In August 2022, he was implicated in the fatal shooting of Brian Olunga, an aide to his political rival, Brian Khaemba.
Following the incident, Barasa surrendered to the authorities and was subsequently charged with murder.
After a ten-month trial, the High Court acquitted him in July 2023, citing insufficient evidence to support the charges.
Beyond this case, Barasa has been involved in other contentious situations. Yesterday a video surfaced showing him in a heated exchange with a police officer.
The footage depicted Barasa reprimanding the officer in a manner that many perceived as condescending and disrespectful.
The video sparked widespread criticism, with observers expressing their disapproval of Barasa’s conduct towards law enforcement personnel.
These incidents have ignited discussions about the behavior of public officials and their interactions with law enforcement.
Many Kenyans have expressed their dismay, using phrases like “bure kabisa,” a Swahili term meaning “completely useless” or “worthless,” to describe such actions.
The controversies surrounding Barasa underscore the challenges in maintaining ethical conduct and accountability among public servants in Kenya.
