Two Police Officers Arrested in Nairobi Robbery Incident
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are probing a shocking case of robbery with violence in which two police officers were caught in the act.
The dramatic incident unfolded on Monday night in Nairobi’s Githurai Estate when the officers, alongside a civilian accomplice, were caught red-handed assaulting and attempting to rob a resident.
Officers Caught During Routine Patrol
A police report obtained by Newshub.co.ke reveals that officers from Githurai Police Station, who were conducting routine patrols, stumbled upon the crime scene near the Githurai-Soweto Railway Line.
According to the report, the suspects had pinned a man to the ground and were in the process of robbing him when the patrolling officers intervened. Acting swiftly, they managed to arrest the two police officers and their accomplice before escorting them to Githurai Police Post.
“On the night of February 17, 2025, while on routine patrol, our officers encountered a disturbing scene. The three suspects had pinned a civilian to the ground and were attempting to steal from him,” the police report reads in part.
The arrested suspects are now undergoing processing at the police post and are scheduled to be arraigned in court today, Wednesday.
DCI Issues Stern Warning
Following the arrests, the DCI issued a firm warning, cautioning both members of the public and law enforcement officers against engaging in criminal activities. They emphasized that such actions would be met with the full force of the law, regardless of the perpetrators’ positions.
Separate Case: DCI Officer Arrested Over Past Robbery
This incident comes just hours after detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit (SCU), in collaboration with officers stationed in Ruiru, arrested a DCI officer in connection with a violent robbery.
The officer, who was attached to the DCI offices in Kibwezi, Makueni County, was taken into custody on Monday, February 17, for his alleged involvement in a robbery that took place on July 22, 2024.
In the reported case, a group of robbers stormed a bar, where they shot a bartender in the stomach and stole Ksh50,000 before escaping. The bartender was left with serious injuries.
Another Arrest in Githurai Over Child Kidnapping
Meanwhile, in a separate case within the same Githurai area, police arrested a 33-year-old man for allegedly kidnapping a seven-year-old boy in the Mwihoko area of Kiambu County.
The arrest, which took place on February 17, 2025, was the result of a well-coordinated operation by officers based at Githurai Police Station. The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
These incidents highlight growing concerns over criminal activities involving both civilians and law enforcement officers, prompting authorities to tighten security measures in Nairobi and its surrounding areas.
