Waiguru Lectures Mt Kenya Leaders Like Burukenges Flocking Gachagua’s Wamunyoro Home

Waiguru Warns Mt Kenya Leaders Rushing to Gachagua’s Wamunyoro Home

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has strongly criticized Mt Kenya leaders who have been visiting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence.

Speaking on Wednesday, February 19, Waiguru cautioned these politicians, warning that their actions could come back to haunt them in the future.

Addressing a gathering in Kirinyaga County, Waiguru questioned the motives of leaders engaging with Gachagua, who has taken an active role in opposing the government since his impeachment.

She expressed concern that these leaders might be jeopardizing their political futures by aligning themselves with him.

The governor, who is a key ally of President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, emphasized the risks of being in opposition.

She warned that Mt Kenya leaders frequently seen at Wamunyoro could face significant political setbacks, including losing their positions in upcoming elections.

“I want to caution my fellow Mt Kenya leaders against rushing to Wamunyoro just because they are being invited,” Waiguru stated.

“You must think critically because even those rallying you to that place are not the only ones interested in gaining political power. When the time comes for elections, many of you may not even secure party tickets,” she added.

Growing Political Realignments in Mt Kenya

Waiguru’s comments come at a time when numerous leaders from the region have been flocking to Gachagua’s home, fueling speculation about a major political shift in Mt Kenya. This trend follows Gachagua’s declaration that he intends to form a political party, which he claims will “reshape” not just Mt Kenya politics but also the national political landscape.

Over the past few months, Gachagua has actively hosted meetings at his Wamunyoro residence, sharing photos on social media of his engagements with political figures, business leaders, and religious groups.

His increasing influence has led many analysts to describe Wamunyoro as an emerging center of power, rivaling State House and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s official residence in Karen.

Despite this growing momentum, Waiguru downplayed Gachagua’s political ambitions, arguing that his impeachment bars him from running for public office.

She reminded the leaders flocking to his home that his eligibility to contest remains uncertain, as the matter is still in court awaiting a ruling.

“Those rushing to Wamunyoro should ask themselves whether the person they are following can even run for office,” Waiguru remarked. “Instead of engaging in unnecessary political drama, we should focus on delivering development to our people.”

Gachagua’s Efforts to Build Political Alliances

Beyond hosting local leaders at his home, Gachagua has also been reaching out to national political figures who are outside President Ruto’s government.

His recent meetings with opposition figures, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, and People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, have fueled speculation about the formation of a new political alliance.

Gachagua has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the Kenya Kwanza administration and has openly stated that he is determined to prevent Ruto from securing a second term in office.

His declaration to make Ruto Kenya’s first one-term president has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, setting the stage for an intense battle ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As the political scene in Mt Kenya continues to shift, it remains to be seen whether Gachagua’s growing influence will pose a real threat to Ruto’s dominance or if Waiguru’s warning will deter leaders from aligning with him.
