MCA Simon Mumeita Saitoti Dies After Treatment
Simon Mumeita Saitoti, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Purko Ward in Kajiado, has sadly passed away at the age of 42 while receiving treatment. His death occurred while he was undergoing medical care in Nairobi.
Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku confirmed the tragic news, stating that Saitoti was admitted to a hospital on February 26. He had been scheduled for surgery but remained in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) until his passing.
Governor Ole Lenku expressed his shock and sorrow over the untimely death of the MCA, describing it as a great loss not only to Saitoti’s family, friends, and the people of Purko but also to the entire political community in the county.
“I have received in utter shock the sudden demise of Purko Ward MCA, Hon. Simon Saitoti, at a Nairobi hospital where he was undergoing treatment after a short illness,” Ole Lenku said.
The Governor went on to praise Saitoti for his humility and dedication to servant leadership, which he displayed throughout his career, including during his time in the disciplined forces.
“For the past two and a half years of his service as an elected leader, Hon. Saitoti stood out as a voice of reason. He was always an advocate for diplomacy in resolving matters that arose in the county,” added Ole Lenku.
Saitoti was a key member of the Kajiado County Assembly, where he served as the Minority Whip.
He was elected on a Wiper Party ticket and was actively involved in several important committees, including the House Business Committee, the Roads, Transport, Public Works and Energy Committee, the Trade, Investments and Enterprise Development Committee, and the Rules and Procedures Committee.
Kajiado County Assembly Speaker, Justus Ngossor, also shared his condolences, describing Saitoti as a brave leader, a friend, and a colleague.
Ngossor noted that the County Assembly had lost a valuable member and would take the lead in organizing his funeral.
“After undergoing surgery, Hon. Saitoti was immediately admitted to the ICU, where he passed away yesterday evening,” said Speaker Ngossor.
This tragic news comes just days after the death of former Baringo North MP Willy Rotich Kamuren, who passed away while receiving treatment in Nairobi on February 28.
Former Nominated MP Gideon Keter also confirmed Kamuren’s death, describing him as a dedicated leader who made a lasting impact on the people of Baringo County.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Hon. Willy Rotich Kamuren, a leader who truly made a difference through his immense dedication to Baringo and Kenya. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest well, Mzee,” Keter said.
