State House Bodyguard Allegedly Kills Civilian in Nightclub Shooting

Police in Nairobi have launched investigations into a shocking case where a police officer attached to State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed allegedly shot and killed a civilian during a dispute at a nightclub in Kawangware.

According to reports, the officer fired multiple shots at 35-year-old Amos Lagat, striking him in the stomach and chest at close range.

Witnesses say the altercation started when Lagat won a bet at a local pub in the Amboseli area, which seemingly angered the officer, who had lost. The argument quickly escalated, leading to the fatal shooting.

Lagat was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival due to the severity of his injuries.

However, the case took an unexpected turn after the officer went to the police station and recorded a conflicting statement, claiming that he was attacked by robbers.

In his statement, the officer alleged that three men confronted him while he was walking home around 8:00 pm on Sunday, forcing him to fire shots in the air to defend himself.

He further claimed that during the struggle, one of the attackers briefly took his Ceska pistol, but he managed to recapture it before shooting into the air.

Police at Muthangari Police Station have since taken over the case and launched investigations to determine what truly happened.

“The officer stated that one of the men grabbed his Ceska Pistol, serial number F4899, but he managed to seize it back after a struggle.

Another individual attempted to block his movement, prompting him to fire several warning shots into the air,” part of the police report stated.

The officer also reported that he sustained an arm injury during the incident, while Lagat’s body was transferred to Chiromo Mortuary for further examination.

Authorities have since disarmed the officer and admitted him to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, detectives are working to reconstruct the events of that night by revisiting the crime scene, collecting witness statements, and analyzing any available CCTV footage.

This incident comes just days after another alarming case where a General Service Unit (GSU) officer shot a fellow officer on February 26.

The suspect in that case was attached to the home security detail of a foreign President in Gigiri, Nairobi.
