DP Kindiki Reveals Pressure to Oppose President Ruto

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has disclosed that several influential figures have recently approached him, urging him to go against President William Ruto.

Speaking at Ng’arachi Comprehensive School in Laikipia County on Tuesday, April 1, during Ruto’s tour of the Mt. Kenya region, Kindiki shared how he was repeatedly asked why he had not challenged the president’s leadership style.

The former Interior Cabinet Secretary revealed that these individuals pressured him on multiple occasions to stir conflict and openly oppose Ruto on various issues affecting Kenyans.

However, he firmly rejected the idea, questioning the intentions of those advising him to rebel against the president.

Without mentioning names, Kindiki criticized the individuals who tried to influence him, emphasizing that he remains committed to supporting and working closely with President Ruto despite any opposition.

He made it clear that his role as deputy president is to assist and defend the head of state while ensuring that the concerns of Kenyans are addressed.

According to Kindiki, it is the responsibility of the opposition leaders to hold the government accountable, not his.

“There are people advising me to turn against the president and questioning why I am not fighting him. Since when has a deputy president fought the head of state?” Kindiki asked.

“I am not part of the opposition. It is their duty to check the government’s actions. My job is to support and defend the president,” he added.

Ruto Breaks Silence on Gachagua’s Exit

Kindiki’s remarks came just hours after President Ruto, for the first time, spoke publicly about why he removed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and replaced him with Kindiki.

During a live television interview with journalists in Nyeri County on Monday, March 31, Ruto accused Gachagua of fueling unnecessary conflicts within the government, including disputes with senior State House officials and Members of Parliament.

The president revealed that Gachagua frequently clashed with key government figures, including digital strategist Dennis Itumbi, MPs Ndindi Nyoro, and Kimani Ichung’wah, creating division within the administration.

Additionally, Ruto disclosed that Gachagua had demanded Ksh10 billion and allegedly threatened to sabotage his presidency if his demands were not met.

“I asked him, ‘Why are you fighting with Itumbi, my personal assistant Farouk, and these young leaders? What is the reason for all these small fights?’” Ruto recalled.

He further claimed that Gachagua warned him he would not secure a second term unless he provided the money.

“Gachagua told me that I would be a one-term president if I failed to meet certain conditions. He demanded Ksh10 billion, saying he needed it to engage with the Mt. Kenya region.

I refused. I told him that if my presidency lasts only one term, then so be it,” Ruto revealed.

He added that following his refusal, several MPs aligned with Gachagua waged political battles against the government.
