Crowd Walks Out at Ruto’s Event

Crowd Walks Out at Ruto’s Event in Tharaka Nithi

A surprising and rather dramatic scene unfolded at President William Ruto’s rally in Tharaka Nithi on Friday, April 4, when a significant portion of the crowd walked out while the president observed.

The incident took place when Kimani Ichung’wah, the Kikuyu Member of Parliament and Majority Leader, took to the stage to address the gathering.

Footage shared with Newshub.co.ke shows that as soon as Ichung’wah began speaking, the crowd began to disperse and leave the event.

Interestingly, the footage was initially captured in a wide-angle, but as the crowd started to walk away, the camera zoomed in to focus only on Ichung’wah.

This move appeared to be an attempt to downplay the scale of the incident, but even with the zoomed-in shot, the departing crowd was still visible in the frame.

Despite the growing exodus of attendees, Ichung’wah appeared unaffected by the situation and continued delivering his speech to the smaller group that remained behind.

This event follows a similar incident the day before, when Ichung’wah was part of President Ruto’s team during a visit to the Mt. Kenya region.

There, he faced a hostile reception from the crowd, which interrupted his speech with jeers and whistles.

Despite this, Ichung’wah responded defiantly, claiming, “Let me tell you. No one can shout me down. I cannot be intimidated.”

However, after facing another round of heckling, he eventually relented, handing the microphone back while insisting that he was not intimidated by the hostile crowd.

The situation raised concerns for President Ruto, especially after reports indicated that local MCAs in Embu had been planning to disrupt his visit.

This potential disturbance was related to frustrations with Governor Cecily Mbarire, as the MCAs felt excluded from the planning of the president’s tour.

In a late-night meeting on Thursday, outgoing Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku managed to defuse the tension, securing the MCAs’ support for the visit and ensuring the event could proceed without further disturbances.

The series of events suggests that while President Ruto’s visits to different parts of the country have been marked by significant state projects, political tensions and local grievances continue to pose challenges to his tours.
