MP Threatens to Remove IG Kanja After Gachagua Attack

MP Stephen Mule Threatens to Remove IG Douglas Kanja Over Gachagua Church Attack Incident

Matungulu Member of Parliament Stephen Mule has warned that Parliament may begin the process of removing Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja from office if he continues getting involved in politics instead of focusing on his core duty of maintaining law and order.

This warning follows a violent incident at a church event attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking during a press briefing on Sunday, April 6, MP Mule criticized the IG for what he described as political bias and failure to provide security, especially during the chaos at PCEA Kasarani East Church.

He firmly told the police boss to stop engaging in political matters and concentrate on serving and protecting Kenyans, as required by the Constitution.

The lawmaker expressed serious concern about the attack at the church, where a group of rowdy youths disrupted the service while Gachagua was present.

Mule stated that Parliament will be closely watching IG Kanja’s actions and expects him to take swift action by identifying and punishing those who were behind the incident.

He insisted that the IG must launch a thorough investigation and disclose who organized and funded the group that caused chaos at the church. Mule emphasized that accountability is key, and if Kanja fails to act accordingly, Parliament will not hesitate to begin steps to remove him from his role.

“How can you be involved in political rallies in Nyeri while ignoring your responsibility to protect innocent worshippers at PCEA Kasarani?” Mule asked.

“We are giving you a fair warning now—either you get serious with your work, or we will begin the process of removing you from office.

You must stop involving yourself in political games. Our security agencies should be professional and not political.”

Mule condemned the attack in strong terms, calling it a shameful act that went against the fundamental rights of Kenyans to worship freely and peacefully.

He stressed that the security agencies, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), must do their job and ensure that all churches and places of worship are fully protected from such disruptions.

“I want to strongly denounce the incident that occurred today at PCEA Kasarani. The IG, DCI, and all other security officials must understand that it is their constitutional duty to protect churches and the faithful.

Worshippers must be allowed to practice their religion in peace without fear or interference,” Mule stated.

During the incident, security personnel linked to Gachagua reportedly fired shots into the air to disperse the unruly youths who had stormed the church.

According to various reports, the youths were demanding money, allegedly promised to them to attend the event, leading to chaos that forced the former Deputy President’s team to act.

Reacting to the incident, Gachagua criticized the government and blamed President William Ruto for allegedly sending goons to disrupt his event.

He described the attack as heartless and inappropriate, especially considering it happened in a place of worship.

“My President, what happened to you? Have you really stooped so low? Now you’re even sending goons to churches?” Gachagua asked emotionally. “Last week in Limuru, you sent goons.

Then again in Nyeri. And now, inside a church? You’ve crossed the line. You’ve become too bold in your actions.”

The former DP’s comments have sparked further political tension, with leaders and citizens questioning the involvement of security forces in political disputes and calling for greater professionalism in how security matters are handled in Kenya.
