Oscar Sudi Fires Back at Gachagua Over Alleged Ksh2 Million Church Donation

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has strongly dismissed claims made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who accused him of taking Ksh2 million to the PCEA Church in Kasarani to silence its criticism of the government.

Speaking on Saturday, April 19, during the Eldoret Pioneer DCC Women’s Conference at AIC Koilebel Church, Sudi accused Gachagua of focusing on petty and baseless issues instead of addressing the major problems affecting the people of Kenya.

According to the outspoken legislator, it was laughable that Gachagua could stand before the public and accuse him of such things when he himself had failed to lead the nation effectively during his time in office.

Sudi didn’t hold back in his response. “This is exactly why Gachagua is now sitting at home. He couldn’t lead the people properly. I saw him claim that I was sent with Ksh2 million to PCEA Church to silence them. That’s a joke,” Sudi said, addressing the congregation.

He went on to throw a personal jab at the former DP, suggesting that his political downfall was due to his arrogance and disrespect, even to those who helped him rise to power. “Let me tell Gachagua something—when it comes to church work and supporting churches in Kapseret, I’ve done much more than he ever could. If his wife Dorcas were not by his side, everyone would clearly see how much of a fraud he is,” Sudi added.

The MP also reminded the public of his role in supporting Gachagua to secure the Deputy President position in the past, expressing disappointment that despite the help, Gachagua turned out to be disrespectful and ungrateful, which ultimately led to his ouster.

Sudi reaffirmed his commitment to supporting churches financially and spiritually, no matter the criticism or political noise surrounding his donations.

“People are angry because we’re giving to churches. But we must give. We must offer what we have to the house of God.

We give not because we want to silence anyone, but because we believe in the power of giving, and we know we need forgiveness,” he explained.

His comments were a direct response to Gachagua’s earlier remarks made on April 15 during a public gathering in Machakos.

At the time, Gachagua had accused President William Ruto’s government of attempting to intimidate and suppress churches that dared to speak out against government wrongdoings.

Gachagua alleged that the government had started sending people to bribe or pressure church leaders into silence.

Specifically, he claimed that Oscar Sudi was sent with Ksh2 million to stop leaders of the PCEA Church in Kasarani from speaking out after goons reportedly stormed the church.

“These people are now interfering with the church. They are even going as far as sending people with money to defile the altar of God. Sudi was sent with Ksh2 million to silence the PCEA Church.

That is completely wrong. We must respect churches and honour the sanctity of the altar,” Gachagua claimed.

The political tension between the two leaders appears to be deepening, with both making strong public statements.

As it stands, Sudi has made it clear that he will not be intimidated or silenced by anyone and will continue to support churches in his constituency, regardless of accusations made against him.
