Senator Goes After Natembeya

Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has once again reignited his political rivalry with Governor George Natembeya, this time launching strong criticism against the county government over the ongoing shortage of essential drugs in public hospitals across the county.

Speaking during a community outreach event held on Saturday, April 19, Senator Chesang passionately defended the Social Health Authority (SHA), a key government initiative aimed at improving healthcare, while also calling out local leaders for allegedly sabotaging the national government’s efforts to implement the Taifa Care program.

“Anyone who has been unwell and has received care through this system knows the truth,” Chesang said. “We should not allow anyone to mislead us—this program is working.”

Chesang took issue with a number of leaders whom he accused of relentlessly attacking the SHA. He said he would not remain silent while Trans Nzoia residents continued to suffer due to the lack of critical medical supplies.

The Senator emphasized that while the SHA was making a positive impact in many parts of the country, Trans Nzoia was being left behind due to what he described as weak leadership and poor implementation by the county government.

During the same event, the Senator gave out food packages to thousands of residents as part of an Easter goodwill gesture.

He used the opportunity to also promote an SHA registration campaign, urging more residents to sign up for the program and benefit from government-supported healthcare services.

Chesang further announced plans to take the SHA registration drive to every corner of Trans Nzoia County. He pledged to deploy mobile clinic vans to reach remote villages, not only to distribute medicine but also to help more residents enroll in the Taifa Care program.

“If you see me personally bringing medicine to your area, it’s because I understand the pain you’re going through,” he remarked, indirectly criticizing the county government’s failure to address the crisis.

Chesang’s latest efforts highlight the deepening feud between him and Governor Natembeya—a rivalry that has been simmering for several months. The two leaders have clashed repeatedly over matters related to county development and service delivery.

Apart from the ongoing health crisis, Chesang has previously accused the county administration of mismanaging over Ksh800 million that had been allocated for development projects.

He has consistently raised concerns about the transparency and efficiency of how the county is being run.

Meanwhile, Governor Natembeya has also been making headlines, recently alleging that his life is in danger due to his outspoken criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

While speaking during a seed distribution event in Kaplamai Ward, the governor claimed that he was attacked during the funeral of former IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati and blamed the incident on hired goons allegedly linked to the government.

This political showdown between Chesang and Natembeya continues to fuel tensions in Trans Nzoia, with residents caught in the middle of a power struggle that is now spilling over into vital sectors like healthcare.
