Woman Tries to Intercepts President Ruto’s Motorcade After Madaraka Day

There was a brief moment of drama at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on Sunday, June 1, shortly after the 62nd Madaraka Day Celebrations ended. A woman unexpectedly attempted to approach President William Ruto’s motorcade as it was leaving the venue.

The unusual incident occurred just moments after the national celebrations concluded. The woman managed to break through the heavily guarded security zone around the stadium, seemingly trying to get close to the Head of State.

Her sudden action immediately triggered a response from the president’s security team, who acted quickly to prevent her from reaching the convoy.

Due to the security breach, President Ruto’s convoy briefly came to a halt. Several security officers, dressed in black suits and believed to be part of the president’s elite protection unit, quickly surrounded the woman and forcefully moved her away from the road.

Although she resisted for a short moment, the security personnel overpowered her and returned her to the crowd.

Footage reviewed by Newshub.co.ke showed that the same woman later made another hesitant attempt to get near the president.

However, security officers remained highly alert and ensured she did not disrupt the proceedings again. They maintained a tight watch as the president exited the venue without any further issues.

The incident took place amid heightened public interest in the celebrations, as thousands of residents from Homa Bay and nearby areas flocked to witness the historic Madaraka Day event.

According to reports, people had started gathering at the Raila Odinga Stadium as early as Saturday evening, May 31, eager to secure a spot for the following day’s function.

Despite the stadium already being filled to capacity, event organizers opened the gates once again on Sunday afternoon to allow more citizens to enter. This led to an even larger crowd, increasing pressure on the event’s security protocols.

Concerns over President Ruto’s safety during public engagements have been growing recently, especially following a string of alarming incidents.

On May 4, during a public rally in Migori County as part of a three-day development tour, the president narrowly avoided being hit by a shoe that was thrown at him. Quick to react, Ruto raised his arm to block the object, avoiding injury. Observers had earlier pointed out potential safety concerns at the event, especially given how close the president’s podium was to the crowd.

In another separate incident on May 23 in Kibera, a woman tried to grab the president’s attention by physically reaching out to him.

As she extended her hand for a handshake, she refused to let go, even as one of the president’s bodyguards attempted to move her away.

The situation momentarily became tense as both the president and the woman lost balance in the process.

These repeated events have once again brought national attention to the level of security surrounding the president, particularly during open public gatherings.

With citizens keen to interact directly with the head of state, the balance between accessibility and security remains a challenge for his protection team.
