MP Reacts to Viral Video of Protester Confronting Police With Panga

MP Caleb Amisi Warns of Youth Uprising After Viral Video Shows Protester Confronting Police With Panga

Saboti Member of Parliament, Caleb Amisi, has raised the alarm over growing anger among Kenyan youth, warning that the country could face a serious uprising if the government continues to ignore cases of police brutality.

Amisi made the statement while reacting to a widely shared video that surfaced on social media. The footage shows a daring protester confronting police officers in Nakuru with a machete—commonly known in Kenya as a panga—during a street protest on Tuesday.

The MP expressed deep concern over the police’s behavior, saying that it has become unbearable for many young Kenyans. He warned that if no action is taken to address the injustice and mistreatment, the youth may no longer hold back and could choose to resist, even by force.

In the viral clip, the man is seen boldly waving the machete and walking straight towards police officers. Despite a teargas canister being thrown in his direction, he continues to move forward without fear. He is heard shouting “endeni huko” (go away), as the officers retreat in apparent shock and hesitation.

Amisi said the incident is a clear sign that the youth are tired and have lost patience with how the police operate, particularly when they use excessive force or show no accountability.

“Never before in Kenya’s history have we seen a citizen confront a police officer with a panga, ready to fight. This is new, and it shows how serious things have become,” Amisi remarked.

The lawmaker added that if the current regime does not start genuine reforms, the youth may decide to take their future into their own hands. According to him, it is no longer just about policy changes—it is about deep-rooted systemic transformation.

“Unless this regime transforms and creates a nation that our children will be proud to inherit, then those same children will rise and claim their country and their future. At that point, the method of resistance may no longer matter. Kenya needs a complete rebirth—a renaissance,” he stated.

The protest in Nakuru, where the machete incident occurred, was sparked by public outrage following the killing of 35-year-old Duncan Nderitu. Nderitu reportedly died after being shot in the head during a police operation.

According to witnesses, the incident happened as police were trying to arrest a man suspected of selling drugs. The situation escalated quickly when local residents confronted the officers, resulting in a chaotic scene.

The police fired shots into the air to disperse the crowd, but in the confusion, one officer allegedly shot Nderitu.

This shooting has drawn national attention and sparked protests, with many Kenyans calling for justice. The actions of the machete-wielding protester have stirred intense online discussions, with some people praising his courage while others agreed with MP Amisi, calling it a wake-up call for the entire country.

Many believe that the incident marks a turning point in how young people are responding to state violence, and it reflects the deep frustration many feel after repeated cases of police misconduct go unpunished.
