Kenya Air Force Plane Crashes, Two Officers Feared Dead in Kwale

Two Kenya Air Force officers tragically lost their lives on Saturday, June 14, following a plane crash in Kwale County. The fatal incident occurred in Ndavaya, Kinango area, and was officially confirmed by County Commissioner Stephen Orinde.

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) also issued a statement acknowledging the crash and shedding light on the circumstances that may have led to the unfortunate event. While the military confirmed that two officers were on board the aircraft, they did not clearly state whether both officers had died in the crash.

“Earlier today, on June 14, 2025, a Kenya Air Force Grob 120A aircraft experienced an emergency during a training flight in the vicinity of Mwakijembe Primary School in Ndavaya, Kwale County,” the KDF said in their official statement.

They went on to note, “There were two pilots on board. Recovery operations are currently ongoing.”

According to available flight tracking data, the aircraft took off from Mombasa at around 11:39 a.m. The plane was last recorded flying near Diani before it vanished from radar. It reportedly crashed at approximately 12:06 p.m., about 27 minutes after takeoff.

Images obtained by Newshub.co.ke from the crash site showed the aircraft completely shattered. The plane’s roof appeared to have been torn off entirely, and the damage to the cockpit was severe—only the seats remained intact, with the nose of the aircraft reduced to scattered debris.

In contrast, the tail end of the plane seemed to have suffered relatively less damage. This suggested that the plane might have nose-dived into the ground, leading to the front being heavily crushed upon impact.

The aircraft came down in an open field with scattered vegetation. Reports indicated that this area is frequently used for military training exercises. Thankfully, no civilian injuries or casualties were reported as of the time this report was published.

Shortly after the crash, local residents began gathering around the scene out of curiosity. Emergency response teams were quickly dispatched to the location to carry out search and recovery efforts.

Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash and provide updates on the status of the officers involved.
