Omtatah Calls for Arrest of DCI Boss

Omtatah Demands Arrest of DCI Boss Over Blogger’s Death

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has strongly demanded the resignation and arrest of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss, Mohamed Amin, over what he described as serious inconsistencies surrounding the mysterious death of blogger Albert Ojwang.

Speaking in a passionate statement on Sunday morning, Omtatah, who is also a presidential hopeful, said Amin must take responsibility after CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital exposed false claims made by the DCI.

According to Omtatah, the new evidence completely contradicted the official narrative provided by the police.

The CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital, which was aired by Citizen TV, clearly showed that Albert Ojwang was already at the hospital by 1:35 am.

This is a critical detail, as it directly goes against earlier claims by the DCI that Ojwang was still being held in custody at the Central Police Station at that same time.

“At exactly 1:35 am, CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital confirmed that Albert Ojwang had already been taken there. He was already dead. But DCI Boss Mohamed Amin publicly claimed that Ojwang was still inside a police cell at that hour. We cannot allow this kind of blatant dishonesty.

We are demanding the immediate arrest of all the officers involved in this incident. Mohamed Amin must resign. He cannot remain in office after misleading the entire country,” said Omtatah.

The senator went further to claim that Ojwang’s death appeared to have been part of a larger, deliberate plan and not simply the result of police negligence.

He accused the authorities of carrying out a calculated cover-up that involved falsifying the Occurrence Book (OB) records, manipulating medical reports, and attempting to erase key evidence.

“This was not just incompetence. This was a cover-up. Fake OB entries, fake medical documentation, a staged narrative — this is how they tried to bury the truth. We will not accept it,” Omtatah declared.

In his fiery statement, Omtatah expressed deep frustration and anger over what he described as a pattern of abuse by the police, asking pointed questions about who ordered the cover-up and how long this culture of impunity would continue.

“Who is behind this? Who keeps protecting these killers in uniform? How many more people must die in police custody before this country sees real change? We are not begging for answers anymore — we are demanding justice,” he said.

Omtatah added that the blood of Albert Ojwang was crying out for justice and warned that Kenyans would no longer remain silent. He assured the public that this time, there would be no retreat in the fight for accountability.

The suspicious death of Ojwang has sparked national outrage, with many Kenyans taking to social media to demand action.

Public pressure has also mounted on Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Eliud Lagat, who is believed to be the original complainant in the case that led to Ojwang’s arrest and detention.

A new twist emerged on Saturday, June 14 — exactly one week after Ojwang’s death — when more CCTV footage was released.

The footage revealed that police officers arrived at Mbagathi Hospital with Ojwang at 1:35 am, raising even more questions about the events leading up to his death and the timeline previously shared by authorities.

Further developments revealed that a suspect had been arrested in connection with efforts to delete CCTV footage from the Central Police Station in Nairobi, where Ojwang was last seen alive.

Reports indicate that the suspect is a technician who was responsible for installing all 25 CCTV cameras at the station in 2024.

Sources revealed that this technician was contacted on June 8 by a police officer from the Central Police Station. In addition to the cameras, the technician had also set up a digital video recorder (DVR) to store all the surveillance footage.

Authorities now believe that this DVR may have been tampered with in an effort to erase crucial evidence related to Ojwang’s detention and death.

The case has continued to fuel public anger and calls for justice, with more leaders and human rights groups expected to join Omtatah in demanding full accountability from the police service.
