Morara Kebaso Quits Politics

Morara Kebaso Quits Politics After Facing Heavy Criticism and Personal Challenges

Activist Morara Kebaso has officially announced that he is quitting politics, just a few weeks after publicly launching his political manifesto and setting off what many believed would be a promising political career.

The controversial activist, who has built a reputation online where he is both widely admired and heavily criticized, made the surprise announcement on Monday, June 23, through a statement on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

In his post, Morara, who recently became the leader of the INJECT Party, suggested that constant public scrutiny and harsh criticism played a major role in his decision to leave politics so soon after joining it.

“I’ve finally quit politics,” he wrote. “Now I can live my life freely—focus on my business, earn a living, travel to places I’ve always wanted to visit, spend time with my friends, and even enjoy a drink at a bar without the fear of being secretly photographed. I feel free now.”

In his emotional and candid post, Morara went on to express his frustrations about how he was often misrepresented by the media. He also spoke of the mental and emotional strain of always being on high alert because of his status as a rising political figure.

“People can no longer judge me for dancing the ‘wrong’ way or smiling in a way they don’t like. I don’t need security anymore. I can drive myself wherever I want. I won’t have to attend TV interviews just to be misquoted,” he added.

Morara shot to national fame during the anti-Finance Bill protests in mid-2024, where he emerged as a strong voice demanding accountability from the government.

He became known for touring various parts of the country, exposing long-forgotten and stalled government projects—many dating back to former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s time in office.

His activism struck a chord with many Kenyans, and his travels across the country were largely funded by donations from ordinary citizens who appreciated his work.

His growing popularity eventually attracted the attention of State House. In response to his findings, Presidential Spokesman Hussein Mohammed stated that some of the stalled projects highlighted by Morara had either been cancelled or were in the process of being re-tendered.

Morara’s work won him recognition as a key leader within the Gen Z movement, especially among youth seeking change in the country’s political culture.

However, his journey was not without challenges. One of the most serious incidents he faced was when he was physically attacked at the Bomas of Kenya during a public event focused on the impeachment proceedings against former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Despite his bold image, cracks began to show. Allegations soon emerged that the government was pursuing him over unpaid taxes. In addition, his regular online appeals for financial support raised questions and sparked public backlash, with some accusing him of using activism for personal gain.

His credibility was further questioned in March 2025 when he announced that his newly-formed political party—Injection of National Justice, Economic and Civic Transformation (INJECT)—had officially joined the opposition coalition. The move surprised many of his followers and led to debates about his true political intentions.

Tensions escalated in April when a photo of Morara posing with well-known allies of the Kenya Kwanza administration circulated online.

The image triggered widespread debate and led to accusations that Morara could be a government-sponsored ‘project,’ something that deeply contradicted his earlier anti-government stance.

With all these events unfolding in quick succession, Morara’s decision to step away from politics appears to be the final chapter in a short but intense political journey that sparked national conversations, challenged authority, and left behind a legacy full of both admiration and controversy.
