Investigations are underway following the shocking discovery of a police officer’s body that was found dumped by the roadside in Rarieda, Siaya County. The incident, which has left both locals and law enforcement officers disturbed, is being treated as a possible homicide.
According to an official police report obtained by Newshub.co.ke, the lifeless body of the constable was found early Thursday morning along the Ndori–Luanda Kotieno road, close to Rarieda Secondary School. What has puzzled investigators is that the officer’s body was discovered just about two kilometres away from the police station where he was assigned.
The grim discovery was made by another police officer in the early morning hours. The matter was immediately reported, triggering a swift response from law enforcement authorities.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Rarieda, along with the Rarieda Sub-County Police Commander, quickly arrived at the scene and launched an investigation.
At the time of discovery, it was clear that the officer had been subjected to a brutal attack. His body showed signs of serious violence, including deep cut wounds that suggested he had been attacked with a sharp object. Investigators noted that the injuries were consistent with a violent struggle.
Lying next to the deceased officer was a TVS motorcycle, which is believed to have belonged to him and may have been in his possession during the incident.
Early investigations indicated that the officer had earlier escorted a fellow officer and a third individual, although their identities have not yet been revealed. On his way back, the officer was reportedly heading to a popular local shopping center. However, his motorcycle is said to have run out of fuel, prompting him to call for help.
The colleague who responded to his distress call later arrived at the scene, only to find the officer already dead, with fatal injuries to his head.
The body was taken to Lwak Mission Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
This case adds to a troubling trend of attacks on law enforcement officers in recent months. The Rarieda case comes barely weeks after a police officer in Thika was shot dead by suspected criminals. That officer, who was reportedly dressed in civilian clothes, was killed during what began as a routine inspection of motorcycles but quickly escalated into violence.
In another recent incident that took place in June, a police officer was killed while two others were injured during a night patrol in Nakuru County. The officers were ambushed by an armed gang, adding to the growing concern over the safety of law enforcement personnel.
The authorities have vowed to get to the bottom of the Rarieda killing, with detectives following several leads in a bid to uncover those responsible for the officer’s death. The police have also urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
