Six people have been arrested in connection with the shocking murder of a police officer who was gunned down along the busy Thika-Garissa Road in Kiambu County back in June 2025.

According to a statement released on Monday, July 21, by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrests followed weeks of detailed investigations and forensic analysis.

Detectives said the suspects were traced to a hideout in Kahawa West, Nairobi, where five of them were nabbed during a meticulously planned operation.

The sixth suspect was arrested shortly after in the Kiamumbi area of Kiambu County during a follow-up manhunt. The police also impounded a vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects during the fatal attack, adding a key piece of evidence to the case.

All six suspects were taken to the Thika Law Courts where investigators successfully requested to hold them for an additional 21 days as they continue piecing together the details of the incident.

The arrests come more than a month after Police Constable Bernard Koome was tragically shot while on routine patrol in the Cravers area of Thika West.

On the day of the shooting, Constable Koome and a fellow officer noticed a suspicious motorcycle. As they approached it to question the rider, the man panicked, jumped off, and began shooting while fleeing the scene.

Koome was seriously injured in the neck and was rushed to hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his wounds shortly after.

At the crime scene, officers recovered two spent 9mm bullet casings and a CZ pistol magazine loaded with four live bullets. These items played a critical role in identifying and locating the suspects.

The six suspects are expected back in court for mention of their case on August 11.

Meanwhile, in a separate but equally disturbing case, police have launched investigations into the mysterious death of another officer in Rarieda, Siaya County.

His body was found dumped by the roadside along the Ndori–Luanda Kotieno Road, near Rarieda Secondary School. An official report confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the death are still unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
